Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

January

I have not posted much lately because in truth NOTHING has changed. More stores will close. Staples.com will not do well either. The stock has floated up recently with an inflated stock market. This too will end. HOWEVER, there is a hard break (using radio terminology) coming. It's the end of the fiscal year. Actions to cleanup before the new year will be taken by the 3rd or 4th week of January. For investors, keep an eye on the cash on hand and the debt. As they try to artificially inflate the stocks price, cash on hand will decrease. Also watch for them looking for additional lines of credit, a real red flag. The hangers on in DM, RVP and SVP positions understand all this, but they have enough F'you money in the bank that losing their job tomorrow won't really hurt them. SPLS is still (in my humble opinion) double it's current liquidation value, and that amount is not likely to do anything except diminish.

"Yelling at associates for no reason, before they even know what is occurring"

Vinnie stormed into my receiving area one day, literally as I was closing the truck bay door and the truck could be heard pulling away outside. He demanded to know why receiving was so full........

He came into my store one evening and ripped my Ops Supervisor because she was kneeling on the floor while re-fastening the bolts that hold the racking for the shipping box section. The shelf is literally inches off the ground, for an 8' section. Standing and bending over would have been painful for some.

He came in during a seasonal playbook changeover and flipped out because an endcap was empty. It was being reset to the new playbook but the person working on it was called to cover register.

This guy has NO business running a region.... I don't care if he has F--- You money..... he is clueless about store Ops and is bad management. He NEEDS to go.......

I never really expected any laid off RVPs to become destitute. I just want them gone because they are causing more harm than good, but it is probably to late anyway. A morale improvement among lowly store associates is not enough to change the course.

Some of these guys are just poor leaders, Some are malignant bastards with unrealistic and inconsistent standards and behaviors that enjoyed going out to visit stores just for the havock it caused. Yelling at associates for no reason, before they even know what is occuring, kicking over displays, harassing customers and GMs out the door.

I do not really care if they will live comfortably after Staples, having so many especially with more stores closing is a waste of payroll.
