Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Have you left?

Is there anyone on this page who has left Follett and is much happier? I'd like some encouragement!

I was laid off 3 years ago. Got a new job, less pressure, shorter commute, better work, more pay and better technology. They only I miss is the 3 weeks of vacation a year.

i was let go. After a month I received a call from my old boss to come back as a consultant to train his remaining staff of my duties. In the nicest way I can without telling him how I felt--I declined to keep my severance package and bonus. I now am at a new company in a much higher position and pay than follett. I realized my boss took no accountability there and would deflect responsibility to others and put the blame to his staff. Seeing how the new company operates, he would never make it and knowing this makes me smile. I do think of what he is trying to do as he lost his staff if he was moved under a new area and now has to really work. But I shouldn't care

Out of Follett almost three years now; had to save myself from the dirty practices going on with older employees. Former manager having affair with employee but still a better manager than the d--k they replaced him with. Would not look me in the eye, no engagement, wrote me up for FINAL warning never having gotten warning before. I knew what was happening so I got out. Best decision I have made in years. Lower pay, shorter hours, no weekends, nights, no 30-40 hour weekends.... you will find something out there and you will be happier and healthier.

I left just over 6 months ago and I am happier than I have ever been. Get out while you can. Grass is greener everywhere else.

Happy Veteran (5 posts down) is speaking for many. He/She is speaking for the people who took control of their life and got out. The company you loved is dead. This rotting shell is all that's left. It will hurt you more, the more you stay.

Yes I quit Follett at n.d. a month ago , a--hole management ,Follett is a low brow company who belittles their employees does not care and upper management enforces this treatment with silent conviction. I'm not only happier I'm not depressed or losing my soul condoning this type of company. And yes I was management btw. Get out. I have a better paying job now with good decent people as my superiors.

been gone for years and it was the best thing I ever did. I was institutionalized for sure and it was nice to finally see the light of day.

Check Glassdoor and the layoff for feed back from people already working at the places you're considering. Follett is terrible employer. There are other terrible employers. If you choose well, you'll be so much happier when you leave follett.

I've been gone for more than 2 years. I'm still healing from the abuse I received at the hands of follett. I'm getting better. Work shouldn't be dreaded. There is nothing but dread at follett.

Happy Veteran has provided spot on analysis. Quality of life is a significant improvement. I was exhausted when I left. Six days a week 14-15 hours a day. My boss was content to provide zero support. Now I don't have to worry about being stabbed in the back, work a normal schedule and have better pay/benefits. Don't be foolish and and remain loyal to a memory that no longer exists. Life is too short to be unhappy. Run!!!!

I spent well over a decade with Follett and held positions both in stores and in the field. I was patient and after a couple years of applying found a job that provides better pay, a wonderful boss, exponentially better benefits and something I never had: a real quality of life. Some 10 hour days here and there but no more 15-17 hour days that would last 20+ days on end. I worked for years for a total psychopath at Follett that I should have filed harsssment charges against. For my last three years with them, I was in therapy, and my health was falling apart from the insane hours I was working trying to keep my job when I was being targeted for dismissal. Now? Two years out and my health is perfect, my quality of life is incredible, and I wake up on Monday mornings excited about what the week will bring. It saddens me to see what's become of the company I used to love. None of the people I used to respect are there anymore, and beware: they're taking a lot of steps that other companies (that have eventually gone under) have taken to reduce their liabilities. Don't be afraid of what's on the other side. I left on my own terms, and that gave me great peace of mind. Don't be one of those people that get forced out. Get. Out. Now.

You'll be golden...make the move! I did within the past year and it has made life about 100% better overall. I was a "corporate" employee in Westchester. I won't bash the company as some like to do on here (understand completely and not passing judgment), but will just leave it at that the company is rapidly crawling toward extinction, so there's not much to incentivize a mid-level manager without the golden perks of the executive set. Go, be free, be happy!

I left in 2014 right after Project Blue or whatever it was called was completed. I left and started my own business, because I was determined that I was not going to let Follett fire me: I was going to fire myself first.

I was only at Follett for 7 years, but I watched as it became so much harder and more toxic than it needed to be. I don't know how everyone is still carrying on at that store. The hours get longer, there is less help and I don't know how you all do it. I had a lot of jobs and there was no place I worked that left as much PTSD as my Follett gig did.

Get out. Go. There is no reason to stay there. No matter how many years you've put in you're not going to earn some kind of gold medal. Cut your losses and move on. Once you get out, you'll wonder why you stayed so long and allowed that treatment.

Blood pressure down and I'm off meds now. I fall asleep easily on Sun nights. Less money but a much better quality of life.

I left before Fall RUSH and hands down the best move that I've ever done. No more anxiety, or regionals breathing down your neck to reach unattainable goals. It can be frustrating sending out resumes BUT DO IT! There is life after Follett and it's so much of a brighter and happier life!
