Yes, I positive it was named after Pete in slc-lmfao.

There's also the Dilbert principle where companies promote their least-competent employees into management in order to limit the damage they are capable of doing (wikipedia). So maybe they're doing it on purpose. But if so, it doesn't seem to be limiting any damage.

there's a management theory called the peter principle (no pun intended, but it could have been named after slc pete). managers rise to their level of incompetence. williams is the living embodiment of the peter principle.

Ok. the study is about people skills and its relative, however the better your people skills the better performer you are at all levels. It makes sense to me, maybe Williams is an outlier.

The study sounds believable but I feel Williams in particular has some great V.P.'s and above management, the problem lies in middle management. Not all but the vast majority of the middle management at Williams especially pipes is a total mess, lacking serious people skills, business ethics, business critical fundamentals, and last but not least honesty. Having the privilege of working with different internal divisions of Williams has really brought this to light for myself. I thought maybe the experience was just me but ask anyone who contributes to other divisions then has to work with or for pipes, it is a real ridiculous experience, dodge it if you have the chance.

There has been a study on this, it is that way at most companies, small and big. Think about it, middle managers, are better with people because they need to produce results, and that takes people skills. As these managers move up to VP level, there ratings with people skills are actually a lot lower. Have you noticed that CEOs and VPs isolate themselves, it is intentional because they yield the ax, it is part of the game, they quickly mutate from being nice to be an bad guy. . Another factor is anybody that gets that high sometimes has to break rules and doesnt ncesssarily have good people skils.
