Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why such a focus on URM hiring?

What has happened to cause the unbalanced hiring of URMs? Over corrections never work...

Glad to see them get opportunities, no doubt..

However should white males pay for this?

HR speak up here..

URM hiring is a focus because Intel leadership thought that it would be a way to paint Intel in a positive, progressive light. Same with the URM investment fund. Think of it as positive branding and a way to counter the negative things that Intel does.

It was largely driven by Renee James and her loyalists, so it's kind of an albatross around the necks of BK, Murthy, etc. Those guys could give a shirt about URMs or females and probably resent the obligations set forth by RJ. But they have to live with it and - in the view of BK - "make the numbers" (which is an approach that defeats the purpose but his 1 dimensional brain doesn't get that or doesn't care).

What's sad is that Intel could attract the best and brightest, including the highly sought after URMs and females, if it was a good place to work. It's not and no amount of forced hiring will make it otherwise.

Just as Lew Gerstner said that the last thing that IBM needed was a new strategy, it would be refreshing and honest for BK and Co. to just admit that there are bigger priorities and that they need to focus on fixing the core business. But, of course, Intel leadership is clueless and tone deaf (and dishonest) so ain't gonna happen.

@tav, white males have excluded women to such a degree it's criminal and shameful even the post office would not hire women 50 years ago. Woodrow Wilson fired all blacks in Fed Govt. One has to be honest

The the apb urm hiring goal is x% and Intel management will lose bonuses without meeting it. And again, they were warned, repeatedly.

This is HR director and BK mismanagement.

@znb why is it Tier 1 schools have much higher SAT scores. At most schools tier 1 Females have higher test scores

Easy. Intel leaders are more concerned with political correctness than company growth and profits. Example: $300m diversity program. That's sickening.

The thing you have to ask yourself with the college enrollment numbers, are they pushing enrollment to women and URM also?

Top tier schools are expensive and contrary to popular belief white males are not born with some kind of billion dollar trust account. Scholarships are definitely skewed to women and URMs.

If intel hired based on merit, it be lot more women, Asians, Isarelis, Indians. It works for Google, MS...

Look at US patent filings to see where innovation thrives

Only 15% of white men are tier 1. Women and URM maybe 30%. If you hired based upon smarts it be 80% Asian women. Intel hires lots of weak while men from Tier 3 schools. It can't get the best from Tier 1 schools, which typically are not white men. Caltech for example Chem Eng school is 70% women. And Asian 80%. . Go look at Cal Tech, stanford, MIT, CMU....96% of Intel white men can't compete.

We live in the US which is very racist and violent. We have Trumps selling stupid Skittels analogy to white people. The real question is would you take a handful of skittels if there were 3 skittels founder of Google, Elon Musk, CEO of Micro Soft. If people don't like Intel go start your own company! Just whiners here

"so you don't think URM's are as good as white men?" A classic trap response, of course the very very best URM is likely as good as any white, asian, or indian best, but the problem is we aren't hiring one, we are hiring many many engineers, technicians etc. The statistic of large numbers will tell you that there simply is a terribly small pool and we know that small pool was nurtured from high school, thru college, thru graduate school etc. etc. That simply isn't the same rigors that non-URMs were forced to run.

At a company this large with the needs we have, to try and meet the larger population demographics mean we get the "average" talent to. For a techn company that has to compete with the many companies in the Far East who don't hire, promote like that will insure Intel have performance below average.

We have a below average intelligence white male trying to make his mark and he will create a company with far below average talent in a cut throat business. ACT2 and ACT3 are surely coming as this management continues!

I can think of a few obvious reasons for URM hiring.

Intel is based in San Fran and our "leaders" are self-loathing liberals. This is their effort at social justice. I put "leaders" in quotes for the next reason - the people in charge have no idea what they're doing. They're hoping that hiring a bunch of young, non-white people will somehow spark new ideas. So far all I've seen is playing on your phone all day, but hey, who am I to question our dear leader. Finally, we've all seen that BK would rather be a rock star than a CEO, appearing on stage as much as he can in flashy ways (drones, BMX bikes, etc.). He's shown that he loves to parade diversity around for fame like they're pieces of meat. It's disgusting, hiring people and standing them on stage so that you can point at them and show how inclusive you are.

I've heard from multiple people that if you challenge HR on the fairness of URM hiring they'll respond with "so you don't think URM's are as good as white men?" You can spell it out for them that any favoritism is bad no matter who the favorite it is. They'll just keep repeating that line like a broken record because there's really no logical justification for it. Again, heard that from multiple people who "politely inquired" about it.

20 bucks says OP isn't an Anglo white male. Probably one of those 'you know we are considered white too. Just look at my light skin' communities.

You don't get to wake up one day and start asking questions, no siree. This has been building up for decades now and both democRats and republicans are responsible for this. This has nothing to do with Intel in particular and if you don't see that your are a pos. What you can do is make your peace with it. Make some URM friends, hang out with them, laugh with them, find out that they are just like you, they too just wanna make a decent living and spend the weekends in mall buying stupid sh!t. That is all you can do now. That and whining about it on an anonymous forum like a little beach you are.

Divorced, UNWANTED white 58 years old bald roach-look-alike previously married to a white woman is preying on various ethnic women at Intel. Despite being found guilty and asked by Intel HR to stay away from one particular - he continues being member of every Intel ethnic group on Inside Blue that the woman is part of and her cultural heritage relates to.

Another white desperate manager uses 1:1s as dates to harass a Chinese woman. She wears dresses to work so she must really want him, is his attitude.

One sided romance is ALWAYS harassment. Sooner the idiots at Intel and Intel management learn, the better.

Personally I hope - some day - predators' behavior against women lands them in serious trouble with law enforcement, they should spend few years in prison with the g-- male population for attitude adjustments.

BK needs to make his mark.

On his watch big layoffs

On his watch Moore's Law and tick tock died

On his watch TSMC and Samsung and ARMy took over the virtuous cycle

What is a SJ State Chem E to do, got to make a mark by trying to fill the company with URMs instead of the best candidate out there.

Why don't you ask him in the next BUM. Why not get the best candidate versus chase URM numbers?

My personal opinion, typically when a co go overboard in doing certain attention seeking policies like this URM (I fully support URM but not to the extent we are over-pushing for it), it typically points to serious issue with the co. I believe we are doing a "wag the dog" scenario.

Um because they are URM? You can thank Reagan for that btw. Listen to his heartwarming speech from the 80s again if that helps.

URM's are slave labor ??? @bjb

Don't forget large number of white women being brought into Intel as URMs. Their performance records have not been the best either. They are AMERICANS, how are they imported ?

Not all white men are perverts. Many of them are very nice and am friends with them.

I was only referring to the aggressive, abusive, harassing, perverts with bullying (not only towards URMs, but in general bullying attitude towards most others FOR ATTENTION) that have been found to be GUILTY OF SUCH BEHAVIOR. Intel must improve their work culture to achieve results.

Why can't Intel get rid of those found GUILTY OF MISCONDUCT with a termination - without giving them a package ?

I take it that this is a URM calling people who were abused because corrupt politicians and CEO's want to import slave labor i.e. URM's. Oh yes I see the new ideas already, "all white people are perverts". Please stay on the ship as it sinks.

With so many UNPROFESSIONAL WHITE PERVERTS at Intel. Many of whom have been found guilty of abuse, harassment and bullying ....check their HR FILES, all they get is a write up and continued NORMAL WELL PAID employment.

Talk to any employment attorney and they will tell you that these GUILTY PERVERTS are a corporate LIABILITY. Intel should refer to their LEGAL TEAM for advice.

.... ALL OF THE GUILTY SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF INTEL without any package along with their FLM and SLM that protect them for no discipline. Straight TERMINATIONS. That's what would happen anywhere else - even if someone accuses a person. Here at Intel, they have been found to be GUILTY by the Intel OPEN DOOR INVESTIGATIONS.

These people should not have been kept around for so many years. Their victims have left Intel due to HR's inability to take cares action against the perpetrators.

URM hiring is an attempt to fix Intel's degrading culture of abuse, harassment and bullying. Intel hopes with URMs to rejuvenate company with newer ideas, especially with experienced hires.

Hiring URMs is not a perfect system, but it is working as visible from the bitterness it is causing for the long time Intel employees who having survived all these years at Intel playing games and politics.
