How does one answer the question of Salary History.
The apps or by HR I am being asked my Intel starting and end salary. But also previous jobs. I think they are using this to gage new offer. Seems like New position should have a range? Am I getting low balled?

It's best to be honest. I am at a Director level, so nearly every new employer has to make good on my non vested incentive 7 figures. It means exposing not just salary but incentive nearly 50% of my base. All offers and joining docs basicly tie employees into being truthful on information. All employers want to see my vested and invested incentives. Also I want to be asked the question, since I have been above my targets last 3 years. Helps me.
If employer wants/need you reasonable compensation is not a issue. Better way is to interview for the right title. If you are a Sr Engineer only interview for lead engineer. More responsibly means much more money, than lying about 10 or 20% of base. Once your integrity is questioned you are in big trouble.

The laws vary by state but, in general, a potential employer can confirm your final salary with a previous employer. Using the number you provide, they can ask "we have their salary as $___. Is that correct?" Your previous employer can (usually) answer that question.
I believe Massachusetts just passed a law to say that previous salary info cannot be requested or disclosed as part of an employment application. In all other states, there is some way to get the info.
Also note that, for defense contractors in particular, it is common to have to supply a last pays tub from previous employer as part of the hiring process. DO NOT LIE ON APPLICATIONS. It can result in having your job offer rescinded.
The salary of a previous job is simply not relevant to the job being offered. Simply state that the details of that are covered as part of the confidentially agreement of one's previous employment.

If my memory serves me correct, previous employers can only say when you worked there and your job title. They don't disclose your salary when you were employed.
I believe I was asked what I made at my last job when I applied several years ago. I inflated the amount a bit so I wouldn't be low-balled. They also asked what range of salary I wanted, and offered me the lowest amount on my range.

Most large companies have you fill out a application with Los of data plus resume. When you start they have you sign as truthful. So be up right and be truthful. It will come out eventually. Welsh me to the online world, data collections. Nearly everyone runs a detailed background check. You will also sign NDA, patent assignment.

Isn't wages part of the info they can give out to potential employers? I think it used to be long ago (dinosaur ages). I was joking there but I'm serious. I think it used it be. Is it still?
And, unfortunately if you used to make WAY more than the current job you're applying for, AND OK with less salary, often times they won't even offer it to you thinking you''ll just move on as soon as you can make as much or more than you were.
Lie your a-- off. This shouldn't be a question. 'What's your expected salary?' Is more appropriate. But if they wanna turn into your money manager, make some sh-- up so they know you are settling for less.
