Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Moving On!

I'm sure I'm signing away an opportunity to "Stick it to the Man" but I'll be much happier signing their 19 pages of CYA legalese and moving on rather than enduring a lengthy legal process. I get it, it's business and life is not fair but stop talking out of both sides of your mouth HWL. If employees are your greatest asset prove it. You know damn well the RIF and furlough is for the sole purpose of making the quarterly number for Wall Street because topline growth will not get you there. The severance is a small price to pay for our silence. I just hope one of the highly valued employees that just got let go has deep enough pockets to challenge you.

For all of you still left enjoy it while it lasts and never feel you are safe because you are not. If and when you leave, consider just leaving without notice as Honeywell will not give you any notice when your day comes.

Exactly! HON is terrified of bad press and public perception, that is the their weak point!

Yes, exposing all the gestapo tactics that HON is using to local, national media, unions, similar industry will be more lucrative than getting attorneys and lawyers involved. Agreed, only lawyers win those battles and that approach.

Recall last year in phoenix area, the "whistle-blower" that went on the local news? At the time all the realities we have seen in the last year were just "rumors". HON went on a jihad looking for who that person was, they interviewed people, scanned computers, and even contacted the news station (ABC15) to attempt to find the persons identity. I know this as pure fact, zero speculation. Hon stated to ABC15 that the person was illegally releasing internal confidential information. Wait, I thought they said it was just a rumor, nothing true, at this time! HON position was that the whistleblower was just a disgruntled employee and a trouble maker. Now that whistleblower looks like the genius.

I still have many friends at Lockheed Martin. There was time when they were also laying off in droves. This led to wide spread employees leaving without notice, milking the cow, and so on. Don't know how they pulled this off but if you don't leave on amicable terms there is a 401K penalty for the company matching funds when you separate employment from the company. It is significant enough to make you want to stay employed and do whatever they tell you to do. Maybe that's next?

Maybe expose them to "Dateline" or show like that. I'm sure they don't want bad press. We are only asking that they not rob the money promised to us in retirement

The unfortunate reality of lawyers and lawsuits and class actions suits is, it has almost zero impact on what HON does. The over 50 lawsuit, which was really a black and white case, took over 6 years to resolve! And, what did they get, their jobs back! Wow, huge win for a easy case. Frankly people that cry "sue them", or "class action" have never been thru the system. Lawsuits are always in the HR risk/reward equation. HON can do what ever they want, period. Yes, deep pockets implies that somebody sue on principle, independent on end lawsuit cost. 99.9% of the people do not have that position or standing to sue. HON will use the Phillip/Morris tactic, which is string it out to 15, 20, or 30 plus years. Hoping that a majority of the legal standing former employees DIE, yes, DIE. Who has over $100K to give to an attorney, for penny's on the dollar, 30 years from now? HON can do whatever they want, they know it, and those of us with years in the company know it also as we have seen it time and time again, and yes it does s---. Only attorneys win in the end. Those close to retirement are just plain stuck. Those in retirement age, and still at HON, are rolling the dice they don't get screwed (a stupid gamble IMHO). Those with under 5 years out from college are just plain ignorant as there is zero future at HON. Flipping burgers has more growth than hon. NFG's need to run like hell from the hell called honeywell.

There is no legal recourse for being RIF'd. California is also an "At-Will" employment state. People that were laid off need to vent. Blogging is very therapeutic.

Sad part is your manager (supervisor) can't give you recommendation, even thought you may have worked for him/her for years and done it well. Any reference made to manager for potential jobs, would be redirected to HR only for confirmation of employment. Supposedly if they give you a recommendation and you don't get the job, then you can sue Honeywell. Honeywell pays big bucks to lawyers to cook everything out...

Suddenly you are forced to become stranger to those whom you worked with for decades. Very disappointing.

Also non-disparagement agreement, you can't say anything about the company true or false that may hurt the reputation directly or indirectly....WHERE IS MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

In Arizona, employers and employees have an "at-will" relationship. This means that employees are free to quit at any time, for any reason. Similarly, employers are free to terminate employees without notice or reason.

Not a damn thing you can do.

I'm curious, if you got the lawyers involved what would be the basis for your legal action?
