Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Has TMG dug it's own grave?

Once chip technology leadership and Moore's Law was lost, are the people in TMG blind that their careers have been lost? After all it was leadership in technology that really defined their careers, but chips as commodities, not so much.

Today TMG and Silicon manufacturing and development is a totally FUBAR

Think about it, the leaders, the culture, the way decisions are made, the process to listen and pursue new ideas. How is it, healthy and robust, no one problem or even a series of unfortunate events should or could result in a three year delay when you have the money and talent that is in Hillsboro. The reason 10nm has fallen off the rails and the whole product roadmap is a management problem not a technical one. All comes down to the rise of the PTD and TMG cultural and way and all things are the SA way and his in crowd ways.

How can one replace say just one of them, even the top one, all the others in the chain all the way down to most AM and GL are cut from the same DNA. Culture takes decades to develop and years to change. The situation in TMG has been more than a decade in the making and the BoD and MCM did nothing, they actually permitted its rise and spread of the disease all across the company. For those that are inside is obvious it wouldn’t end well and now the train wreck is there for all to see.

No amount of ppt fouls or disinformation inside or outside works now. You can only fool and lie to people so many times. The removal of BK and all the past years spin pretty much says it all about BK and what Intel has become. Now the only question what to do with TMG, really the BoD number one job is governess which as you look now really gets an F

The Board’s role is to oversee the management and governance of the Company and to monitor senior manager performance and ethics. Really wonder why no ACTtion years ago.

TMG is toast and there is nothing it's leaders can do about it other than contribute thousands more individuals to the unemployment lines.

It was only a few years ago TMG and Intel was the envy of the semiconductor industry. They were making billions in profit and had breakthru upon breakthru; Strainged silicon, HiK metal gate and of course finfet, intel ws first, intel made more money.

Well the list of failures were many!

First the turned down the fruit company even though they offered free fruit. Fruit company went to TSMC and a new virtuous cycle monster was born. Just like x86 it wasn't apparent, but you'd think the Intel managers know the game.

Then there were schedule slips and average to terrible products. Competition was gone and the managers and technologists became arrogant and blinded by their own agenda. Execution and innovation and paranoi that built this company were cast aside and managers were more concerned about their perception and insuring blame for anything was else where, cooperation was more toleration.

Each success generation came later and later, till we no longer have Tick Tock as the TMG has blown the whole schedule.

On the other and the ARMy has arrisen and feeded TSMC and Samsung with huge volumes to fund huge factories and R&D to catch intel. These day the virtuous ARM is billion+ strong to Intel's paltry 250 million, guess who wins.

10nm is late, 10nm at TSCM and 7nm is coming on schedule.

Oh the possibilities of the last decade were all thrown away. Don't believe the circuit koolaid one bit, the battle has been lost, the company will layoff a lot more, and TMG will be split out and managed by a bean counter. The AMD store will repeat with TMG become the next Global Foundrys.

This is still an open item; however, the data from the last 6-7 years shows TMG is certainly in decline. They keep missing deadlines and customer commitments and have been unable to crack the 10nm barrier. They have been relegated to becoming a commodity organization. If true, they will not be able to compete with TSMC who developed their business in commodities. Intel is a novice to the business and doesn't know east from west. There still are big headed, arrogant managers within TMG stating to their troops that "they're going to turn this thing around" without even a business concept. They are much closer to failure than a business resurgence.
