Yep, 3.7 years. :-/ But where I'm going there are mostky lifers. Small company. I'd like to keep growing, even go back to school, but I like being a lifer. Is that wrong? I just know it's not possible in tech...then again, I no longer see tech as a place for lifers.

If this is the new norm in high tech I do not want to be part of it.... it does not matter Intel or any other big company.
Layoff is for folks who are not that good at their job... it does not matter how many years they are working for their company. Should be plain simple.

OP is right, this is not new nor is this an insult. Fact is, you can no longer join a company and expect to retire and collect pension. In this new world, you either get aged-out or skilled-out so keep learning new tricks!
