Question regarding certifications after leaving Intel

After the lay-offs, I've been to a number of job fairs and there is always a company present that says they provide education toward most types of industry certifications such as green belt, PMP, etc. You can pay for the training by federal grant for unemployed workers. Has anybody ever been through this type of program, and if so, had the additional certification been helpful in finding a new job or redefining your career? I'm a little suspicious that this company may be "preying" on those in need and is only after the grant money. Just need to know if these programs are worth the time and effort.

Yes. Don't trust these fly-by-night outfits. They are only after your buck. The cert done on the fly after lay-offs will look like a desperate measure to embellish your resume. Certs are only good if you've obtained through a credible society and have demonstrated expertise in projects. The hiring company will probably ask for examples how you utilized the cert.
