Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Its all Supply vs Demand Baby - $10 oil getting close

Lot of people blame OPEC for current situation. But its only one side of the story.

I think going forward we are going to see very slow demand. Just look at number of disruptions on demand side below. They will push oil close to $10.

Self Driving cars/Machine Learning - Tesla, Uber, Google, Ford, GM.....

Electric/Hybrid Cars - Tesla, Ford, GM...more

Ride hailing apps--Uber, Lyft, Ola, Didi...

Solar/Wind Power

Battery Storage Advances

Negative public/ government outlook of Fossil fuels...Coal is dead already, Paris Agreement

Watch this video its long but very true.

Not sure how many agree with me here but its coming to an end.

So feel happy you got laid off. Do something different never look back.

Good luck to everyone.

Production out of Saudi has held steady. It's the US putting 2 miilion additional barrels a day on the market that's the culprit.

The reason that oil prices went from $20 to $100 (from the year 2000 to 2014) was due to increase in consumption in China. Increase in consumption in India, East Asia and Africa will move it higher in the next few decades (Indians have 3 cars per 100 persons, as opposed to Americans who have 97 cars per 100 persons- my numbers are approximates).

US oil consumption has declined in those years, so it is not the country driving up oil prices.

Everyone calm down. It appears things are getting a little heated and out of control here. So, Boo-Hoo, some of you lost your jobs. Be honest, what percent, of you, that lost your job, really did anything? What percent of you really contributed to the company's bottom line? What percentage of you just showed up and drank coffee and ate donuts. Going to work was just a social event for many. BE HONEST, how many of you actually are / where producers? Not many. To those that slipped through the cracks, and still have there jobs, congratulations. Count your blessing and all those "S----UP, Brown-Nose" moments you had with management. Those who lost your jobs, be happy thinking how long you got away with doing the minimum, or less, for as long as you did.

Get rid of the stinking bunker oiled fueled freighters, and supertankers too, huh? Go back to sailing ships.

Electricity generation is increasingly fueled by natural gas, yep, produced by those big bad oil and gas companies. Nuclear electrical generation is slowly disappearing, meaning more fossil fuels is needed since solar energy, and wind turbines are intermittent and even with battery storage cannot possibly supply the increase in electrical energy demand.
