Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

What I did

To all that are going this round, I am sorry, I was cut last round and here is my one piece of advice that really worked for me.

The best way to cope with the anger, despair, etc is to do the only thing really in your control-your health and fitness. It is too easy to respond to your layoff with drinking, eating junk and wallowing in your sorry but choose today to get fit and healthy. Your self esteem will be restored and you will be able to face your new life challenges much better.

So set fitness goals today and track your progress; your family and loved ones will appreciate it and you will come across in interviews much better

Go for a long walk with great music right now!...and best wishes

This is excellent advice. This is exactly what I did and it really helped. COP was a very high stress environment. Looking for work is also stressful and exercise makes it easier.

I took the package (EOI') and was release to be free in December. The OP is correct! Have logged more than 3 million steps since Jan 1. Feel better than I have in 8 years (when I came to work at COP). In addition have lost 30 lbs and yesterday my blood pressure was measured at Dr. office : 160/70! Not bad for a 60 yo guy!

I totally agree with this post. I had the same experience last October - got on the trail the very next day and logged more running miles in October than I did during any other month in 2015.

I dostributed all of my COP clothing, mugs, blankets and other stuff to various homeless people around Houston. I also used a hammer on my various glass awards (42 total) and use a vise to break the metal ones; which were subsequently sent back to COP! Always nice to see the right people wearing COP apparel as the imitate Ryan the Corporate Panhandler!

Yes, it really is all that you can control. Studies show that exercise and fresh air do as much for your mental state as anti-depressants. i'm not sure if that's a plus for exercise or a negative on the pills
