By the way Intel is hiring but only URMs and H1Bs.
Reality is American government is giving American jobs through foreigners through H1Bs and many other visas many are not aware of. US seems to be the only country that allows Americans to be displaced in the work force.
Busted my a-- for 10 years looking for a job. Didn't even get a reply to my resumes, even for those jobs where my background fit perfectly. Over 30 years experience in software engineering and not one bite. If you are over 40 and male, the world doesn't want you.
Someone in a different thread on this forum recently posted a flippant comment about how easy it is for anyone to get a much better job and at higher pay outside of Intel, even any admin. I will have to assume that person was in the Bay Area. There, my ex-colleagues have indeed been successful. Folsom and Oregon? Not so much. I also did all the things LHH recommended and attended all the workshops and have a so-called "all star" profile on LinkedIn, stellar recommendations and many endorsements, a pristine honed resume--and zero interviews let alone offers. I haven't even succeeded in getting past tje recruiting applicant tracking systems (aka 'robots') tjhat now rule recruitment. At my most recent onsite in Hillsboro LHH session, the facilitator said anyone in Oregon will have to move out of the area, will probably need to go back to get more skills and certifications, and if over 50 is probably going to have a very very hard time. To be honest, everything I did at Intel over at least the last 15 years was very Intel specific and has absolutely no transferrability or relevance to the outside world. I had assumed I had a home at Intel and focused my efforts on succeeding there. BIG MISTAKE.
I am not trying at all.
But got good offers from good companies. thought of taking some rest.

The people in power don't care about Americans. You haven't figured out that yet? Sad.
LHH advisor tells me that the average time at any given company is 3.7 years so most of us Intel-ians have been over-stayers. Time to keep moving folks, keep your skills sharp, certifications current, and keep ingerviewing as you're working...maybe in that .7 part of the 4th year. Company lotalty sadly seems to be a thing of the past unless you find a small salt-of-the-earth type company that still cares about their employees like family. I've found one of those but I'm once bitten twice shy so I'll still be looking at self-improvement and keeping my options open. See, sad.
I think it will be very tough. Luckily my wife is working. I decided to call a bunch of school district, passed the background check, got a temporary credintals to teach math, science at HS. Will be subbing. Does not pay much, but gets me out of house I keep 2 days locked down for job search.

I am not sure which field you are in. But being a hardware engineer, I struggled for 4 months and landed in a much better paying job. I must admit the job hunt was excruciating given I had only intel specific skills. I updated my skills - studied books, downloaded sample compiler tools, gave myself assignments and challenges just like college and finally was able to face interviews, everything outside Oregon. I landed a job that seems to be a good fit and decent pay. I must also say, some amount of luck destiny played a key role along with my efforts. The one thing I noted is that interviews demand way too much knowledge than is used at the work place regularly.
So keep trying. don't bash yourself for everything. there are things beyond our control. Hope you will find something that suits you better soon. Good luck.
Feel very badly for you, OP. I've been out of Intel a couple of months now and have not had any useful help from the outplacement service, Lee Hecht Harrison. Set up resume and cover letters to their specification, set up LinkedIn profile to their specification, using networking ad they have suggested without any success. Not even any interviews. Seems like we are just overqualified or don't have the right skill sets for the very few better paying jobs. Has the OP also utilized these services only to have found no help?
It's a tough enviroment. Obviously much of my Paycheck at intel was based upon on Intel specific politics. Rest of world is not going to pay for that.
After 37 weeks took a 40% cut moved to more expensive area.. so bigger cut....no relo. Most jobs 7 to 10 years is max, one doesn't get much better after that.
Technical work is basicly high end mechnical juggling
I view it as Intel overpaid me a long time, I beieve in free markets, so I don't blame Intel or H1. I worry for the young kids. Machines automation will kill huge jobs
Take the cut get a job, my 2 cents.
-1ywa has stated the case in Oregon perfectly. Lots of great, hard working, dedicated people gone and being selfishly replaced by the most undeserving group of people. Any possibility of getting a job with pay anywhere close to Intel does not exist. Very sad demise.
Sorry to hear, ACT was a totally a FUBAR as the CEO is in deep $hit and hasn't a clue.
I find it hard to believe if you are good and have relevant skills and willing to relocate, take a possible paycit their aren't opportunities out there. Massage the resume and LinkedIn profile to get in the door. After that you got have the personality and skills to fit. As extreme as Intel is they are still widely admired and the employees are still desirable hires.
People who think h1b is the problem and or blame them don't deserve to get another job. The failure of Intel is at management level and that needs a fixing big time!

Me too. I did try really hard in June. Found 5 potential careers or at least companies where I could make one in a second job. Went to a bunch of interviews but no offers. I am still alive in the hunt for one of those 5 because they put the posting on hold and now re-opened them. Did some travelling in July and a couple of interviews. Resumed the job hunting on the second half of August. Will get some certifications in October..
What skills? Willing to relocate?
Unemployed for 14 weeks. Collecting unemployment while looking for job. No interviews. Not much out there in my areas of expertise. Probably will have to accept a job, not a career, for a lot lower salary.
