Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Just remember that…

  1. All jobs are temporary.

  2. Being released IS a new beginning.

  3. You will probably go through the whole cycle of denial, despair, anger…

  4. But, you will also find out the colors are brighter, the birds sing sweeter and the world is an infinite range of possibilities.

  5. This can be time to consider a whole different career or to spend more time with loved ones, or to move closer to family.

Best of luck, everyone.

Sounds like a post from some HR person. We give our lives and are owners of this company. I lost it over a year ago with over 40 years of service. Not even a plaque. I sold all my stock and buy fuel from their competitors. It's obvious they can't manage their company because it is still failing. Whoever wrote this can KOA. It's not the fact that layoffs are necessary, it's the lies told along the way.

To vcn, what you say is more the norm than the exception. All of the happy, rah-rah stuff about the opportunity for a great new beginning will not match the harsh reality.

It's not all wine and roses after a layoff. Congrats to those who found a better life after. That's not always the outcome. Divorces, suicides, depression, bankruptcy, lost homes and cars happen. It affects not just the employee but the whole family, broken families are all common. Take care of yourselves but be realistic.

Agree OP. May not be fun, and I'm still on edge. But many of the best changes in my life have been forced upon me. Life will go on for all of us, whether we're freed from our COP shackles or we're one of the few left.

mpy, I know this forum can be a circus but some people, like you, are just plain ignorant. So in your world if you aren't here at work everyday and nothing goes on in your life to take you away from work then you are not of value to the company. And if something bad happens to you, then it is your fault and you deserve whatever you get. Sheesh, go crawl back under your rock and shut the f*** up.

I lost my job a couple years ago and was completely devastated, angry, hurt - you name the emotion and I had it. I was a single mom with 3 kids and had no idea how we would I make it. I used the opportunity to return to school and changed careers. Literally the best thing that has happened to our family!! If you told me that I'd be where I am today back then, I wouldn't have believed you! It's ok that your angry right now and rightly so. Just don't let it consume you. Be mad, cry, scream, whatever you need to do and then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start looking for the opportunities that are awaiting you. I have been there and I promise you that brighter days are ahead!!

Jlq5fNl-xdh, just wondering if COP mandated you have a baby? Was having a baby in your annual performance promise? Was the sperm donor your Supervisor or Manager? If you took time off for having the baby in excess of your vacation, you had no performance during that period of time! Just remember, you added zero value to the company while out on maternity leave! Don't mean sound harsh, I hope the baby is doing well! Just think you'll have more time to spend with it!
