Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Former ITT-Tech Chair: Picked up my personal items today.

Greeting folks,

I collected my things today. It was only a little over a year ago when I sat where you people are now reading about the woes of Heald College employees. While we all saw this coming, the swiftness with which the DoE moved against ITT ESI was quite impressive. Taking and installment agreement off the table and asking for 150+ million more in addition was nothing less than an execution. While there was plenty to blame to go around, there is no doubt that the administrations agenda will not stop with ITT ESI. There is a systematic, ideological mission that is being executed and it is accelerating as the election nears.

I hope the best for you guys but my advice is to be prepared. As the next big fish in the pond, this storm is likely coming your way next.

Best of Luck !

It sounds like you're saying this is about the Obama administration imposing an ideology when the reality is the federal government is acting responsibly considering the well documented fraud committed by the for profits. The for profit industry took itself down. Rather than crying in your martini you should be thankful you're not in jail.

Dear Former ITT Tech Chairman,

Look at it this way. You still get to go home to the McMansion, kick your shoes off, turn on the big screen, spread a big heaping helpful of Caspian caviar on a brioche with a flute of champagne while simultaneously reflecting back on all your good works in the field of post secondary education.

With that, I do agree that ITT was unfairly shuttered without due process as has been suggested, all other pending lawsuits notwithstanding.

To this I can only say that in the future try to have the Department of Education sign, a priori, the arbitration agreement. This handy device seems to have worked well with the industry's student body as it has historically and quite successfully negated their constitutional rights and day in court too.

But when all is said and done, does anybody really feel sorry for a cry baby, like you. Not so much.

They keep you on so they can keep making more and plan their exit strategy.

You keep up the GREAT WORK!

I just don't understand why all the hush hush. We as employees know there are issues. Why can't management be straight and tells what is going on. They are trying to sell the brands and if this happens then what's the next move. A little info would be great.

Yes it is part of Obama's agenda to have government controlled education the same as government controlled health care. He is ramping up the fight against the for-profits to take down as many as he can before he leaves office. He's working with democratic State Attorneys General to force these companies into bankruptcy. When ITT asked for the same deal as Corinthian Colleges they were turned down immediately.

I'm working in the state run higher education sector and yes there are programs now in place to take For Profit students into the state run Community College and University systems. These programs are in place right now.

If it were up to Obama, all businesses would be government-run. I hope the public systems are equipped to service the students who previously attended for-profit colleges and universities.

I've said this in other posts. I'll say it again. The storm has already hit and passed. EDMC is in the process of closing. They're in the process of shutting down and teaching out all of the Brown Mackie schools and nineteen of the Art Institutes. However, EDMC is a very large company with lots of moving parts. A complete shut-down will take time and the Federal government would like it to be as painless as possible. The poster is correct. This is a systematic, ideological mission. There are programs now in place to take refugee For Profit students into the state run Community College and University systems. When Obama said he'd shut down the For Profits, he meant it and yes, they'll be gone before he leaves office. Unlike a lot of politicians, I've noticed Obama tends to keep his word.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you! I watch this site to see if there is any real information but there never is. I know I should be preparing for the day that I too must pack my belongings but I keep hoping things will turn around. Take care!
