Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

More layoffs are a must or a split in the company is required!

Can Intel survive as a silicon manufacture making low volume x86 servers? The companies that failed with low volume and high margin silicon is long with deeper pockets, so if Intel is to be successful they need to jettison TMG or initiate huge layoffs required to compete effectively in memory, foundry, modems, 5g as Intel's current structure can't both maintain margins, fund silicon RD and compete in commodity, worse times ahead, LOL

Post ID: @JfAxocH-lha. Even if your particular group is ahead of the mandatory headcount, don't assume the larger group won't take more Tributes from your group if they want to retain someone. As you go higher up the food chain, that is more likely. In my org I saw the smallest group get decimated even more, and above the formula minimum, because the next two higher levels wanted to preserve some of their managers and Grade 10+ people. I'm waiting for the next step to be that we are dissolved and reorg'd into other groups and are no longer a distinct function.

@JfAxocH-1grr. that's exactly what got me. Too long in grade, despite having S/SSL3 the whole time. Meanwhile, the one slacker on the team survived the algorithm because she was such a managerial pain that the three managers just kept passing her back and forth amongt them, with a nominally new title/position each time. None of the managers had the courage to give her an SSL4 along the way. She did get an IR 4 years ago, but on the last ACT they were only looking back three years. The folks who remain are tearing their hair that she's still there. That's the trouble with peanut butter algorithms.

@1flc - I agree. Which is why people should get out, now. When management becomes that unethical, no one is safe.

"It's therefore unfair and unreasonable to use this as a "performance" measure."

That it is either reasonable or fair makes not a difference. The next lay off algorithm will be shaped to meet the same objective as the last one: removing older and higher paid workers from the payroll

@oqc - isn't it mathematically impossible to have a small number of people with time in grade > 4? Especially as grade level rises? Promos aren't handed out like free fruit. One would expect a large population of people to have time in grade > 4. It's therefore unfair and unreasonable to use this as a "performance" measure.

Not that mathematical impossibility will constrain what management will do.

The next criteria they'll use is "anyone below average will get ISP."

The numbers were met across the board.

The bigger problem is that x86 sales continue to plummet, while severs aren't growing as fast.

The latest ARM and Apple on TSMC look very competitive and if scaled up scary competitive and they aren't even on the latest process yet, wait till the next design comes on 10nm next year

Softbank is investing time to put infrastructure in place for both IoT and servers.

AMD ZEN is coming, it may be FUD but will put additional pricing pressure on dropping volumes

IoT, Memory and 10nm are huge s---ing sounds on already depleted cash flow.

Net the actions from ACT won't be enough and new bigger cuts will be required. We'll see if the CEO grows balls and a pe--sand actually does cuts by organization versus stupid algorithm that cuts all organizations.

Unlikely?“Those that declined ERP will be gone too - Between Q4 and Q1 !”

How would someone be laid off, because of being offered ERP before?

In grade >4 years, SL3, and not EE = gone

means lot of ppl gone

I think that might be true for ERPs only minus the really nice package. I think they'd take the E out of the ERP and they'd only get standard retiree benefits. Not sure if they'd add X amount of weeks like they do for ISPers... I'd think they possible would.

Low volume high cost = disaster

Volume drives scale and is the key to everything.

PSO and BK handed the keys to TSMC.

Anyone who thinks that they are safe..ESPECIALLY if they were offered VSP is very much delusional. I know from the inside that more layoffs are coming..but they will not be called layoffs...rather ..just exiting Intel. You will see this soon enough..people will suddenly announce their retirement....or finding "other opportunities"

Affected personnel: Offered VSP but did not take it = gone

In grade >4 years, SL3, and not EE = gone

Technician, engineers, DCG, PCCG - does not matter
