Main takeaway is that Cannonlake/10nm will only be a paper launch at best in 2017, similar to Broadwell in 2014. The real ramp will happen in 2018, as I have been predicting all along. Kabylake and CoffeeLake will have to cover during 2017. In the meantime, TSMC and Samsung are expected to fully ramp their 10nm processes in 2017, so a full year ahead of Intel. The process lead that Intel held for at least 25 years is being lost as we speak, under his majesty clown shoes BK.
What happened to Tick Tock!
Tick was a compaction on the next node with minimal risk, that would be followed by a new far better architecture on the mature process with the Tock. Intel rocked when it was executing.
Nothing provides as much value as moving to a new process node! You get die scaling for cost, you get performance and power improvement. Now Intel seems to have little motivation to leverage the power of Moore and seem willing to milk last years technology for three more years before 10nm shows up in real volume in late 2018 to 2019.
Something is really broken at Intel with this new developments!
