As time goes I talk to more people and get more statistics. I think I got some interesting tendency.
You know how everybody was telling how Intel was targeting older white males? There always have been some outliers, young white male, young Indian female, middle aged black guy...
So at some point I noticed, and later started asking about that specifically, that many of the outliers were at some point (year or two before being laid off) getting some mental health help, mostly through Intel. It might be something serious, might be just getting some stress coping techniques.
Out of everybody I know who left Intel, around 70% were outliers (sorry, not so many friends among old white folks). Around 85% of those outliers were talking to mental health professionals (either I know that from previous conversations/history with friends, or I directly asked them). Another minor group (just two persons, actually) was with mental health issues (one had mild depression and the other went to counselor due to lots of stress) that was given IR and subsequently left this or past year.
So, one thing I can recommend for sure, don't fall for those posters in elevator lobbies that advertise stress coping techniques...
Another thing... I was wondering if anyone has similar statistics of their own. Please share, I think this is actually pretty big...
