Thread regarding IBM layoffs

From Watching IBM

From anonymous: Please keep me anonymous : I wanted to respond to the person who wrote concerning applying for open positions and not getting anything on May 29th.

With the latest rounds of RAs I have sat in several high level meetings and I can confirm that 'VERY' high executives have said in those meetings, those who are RAed are in fact "NOT eligible for rehire." I did not, nor did others in those meetings ask why, however it was inferred that they would be security risks b/c of the poor severance and being put on the list to begin with i.e. targeted.

I Personally felt in those meetings such information was being exchanged in an effort to 'engineer' a fear based work ethic, supported by a corporate mantra of "what have you done for me lately" The message was very clear... VERY clear... Anyone at anytime can be targeted. NO ONE is safe, so don't get to comfortable.

Reading this is like living in the Twilight Zone.

I was with IBM in the 80's and part of the 90's. I watched the company change. I remember after the first layoff (not yet called RA's), we said "This is just the start." I remember saying that, but not believing it. I wanted to be a lifer. But, being fairly young, I bit on an opportunity and landed at Cisco.

Cisco was hot. Cisco paid well. Cisco worked you hard, but it didn't matter because the rewards were worth it.

Time passes, and I swear to heaven, Cisco is following the exact playbook of IBM. Oh hell, read here about IBM, HP, Cisco and Intel. It is obvious the boys and girls all play in the same social circles and "serve" on each others' boards. They trade ideas about how to manipulate the numbers on the spreadsheet so they can enjoy their executive jet outings to the important social work of the leading elite.

We are nothing but FRUs. FRUs.

I was offered a position less than 3 weeks after I was served the package . The hiring manager indicated that they had a "seat" open (vp approval) as many of their senior reps were retiring (presumably ra'd) and after many calls/emails back and forth was told by the hiring manager that HR had blocked any further movement... And to direct the incumbent to the "right management" employee service.. Ultimately, being ra'D is considered a cost take out on the books of the business unit and in order to be remotey considered for an open position the manager who served you the RA papers would have to cherry pick another employee.. In essence, Balance the books again.. Really an employee is just a simple number on a spreadsheet... Such BS corporate games.. Their loss!
