@JcFbv3I-3uex Almost similar story, 20 years, was probably to easy to stay and continue to collect a 6 figure salary. I loved the job, loved the people that I worked with and managed, but the recent 10 years from PSO on management and the circus grew increasing silly. Those that were promoted were less so for just results / talent / potential but more politics.
Was so fortunate to get my first L4 stock, one can debate if it was deserved, it was a huge shock to many. Was the best thing in my life, moved on. Had 5 offers to noodle, intel folks that have good skills and aren't full of the BS are still valued in the world, So happy I caught a lifeboat. I do feel sad for my many good friends still there as the situation is very very grim. The past few years they escaped no small amount of luck and hardwork. Those that need 5 or more years, if they are luck may survive but many will be screaming in the water as the layoffs continue in 2017 and 2018
It is clear that the virtuous cycle has moved to the ARM and TSMC/Samsung now drive silicon innovation and Intel as much as they make noise are quickly becoming little more than a circus. Yes they servers make billions but beyond that they are rapidly become irrelevant and the world looks to others for true leadership.
When I took the VSP and retired in 2015, it was a rescue. My luxury yacht, (the USS VSP_Retirement), pulled up along side the Titanic (Intel Corp). I jumped aboard with my luggage (my 401k and rollover of my pension value) and then pushed away from the Titanic.
As I sailed away in the other direction, I looked back, and saw the Titanic heading toward the icebergs with BK at the tiller surrounded by his RCG/URM crew. All of his experienced crew were put off on lifeboats or jumped onto their own yachts. Then I heard a loud boom and then a metallic tearing sound. The Titanic began taking on water and sinking.
Did I go back to get others? No, since in there eyes, I was old and worthless (+35 years at Intel) and I had no business being on the Titanic anymore. So be it. I know when I am not wanted anymore.
As I sailed on, the screams of the RCG's faded. I looked back one more time to see a once mighty and wondrous ship rear up and then crack in two and slip below the icy waves. Just like other ships such as the USS DEC, the USS IBM, and the USS Kodak.
So here I sit, on my yacht, with all the food and fuel I need for the rest of my life. Enjoy the icy water RCGs. All the lifeboats are full and the other veteran crew's yachts have sailed away.
Stay at that tiller wheel, BK. The bridge's windows should break at any moment.
