Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Dave Cote on the topic of layoffs. Harvard Business Review 2813

"Both layoffs and furloughs can create behavioral issues and costs, and you could argue that furloughs are tougher in some ways. But one fact remains: Layoffs are much more disruptive to an organization in both the short and the long term. Even employees who stay are extremely distracted, because they’ve lost friends and are worried about their own jobs. To me, that’s no way to run a railroad." Dave Cote Harvard Business Review 2013

Cote instituted cruel stacked ranking employee reviews with a quota requirement for finding "underperformers" and throwing them in the 9 block elbow (and under the bus). Back in the 2008+ recession he did hold the line on layoffs. Now we are back to the good old AlliedSignal routine of layoffs every quarter ... and the damned stacked ranking to contend with on top of that. American management is vile and cruel. People want to do a good job. I quit / retired. In the last 5 years there I never got a simple 'thank you' for any of my efforts. Dysfunctional work place for sure.

It may be "No way to run a railroad" but apparently they have decided it's the best way to run Honeywell Aerospace!

"...unless you're getting ready to retire and truly never gave a shat about the employees. Plus, this isn't a railroad. I only said that because I thought it sounded clever."
