You folks who were offered the choice to take early retirement should be grateful, you got a much better package than those of us who were forced to "retire" the previous year after being blindsided by that SSL4 con, even though our performance reviews were glowing with no indication of any issues whatsoever. The backlash from what happened to us is what got you that good package. And as far as the appreciation comments go, in my case it was hard to be appreciative when you felt like a rug had been ripped from under you and even your manager had no clue what was happening until a day or two before.

The retirement plaque came through the Rideau recognition vendor, the same one that handles the recognition awards debit card. Intel HR probably doesn't handle it, it is just event triggered. Though, HR should have thought of how this obviously automated 'recognition' gesture will be perceived by those retirees who did NOT choose to retire at this time, as the congratulatory letter assumed. HR might have considered telling Rideau to skip the plaque post-ACT, since there is no way to tell for sure who retired as planned and happily on their schedule, and those who were stampeded out. I for one felt I was fleeing a burning building, not sailing into the sunset of senior living.

I had a colleague who milked the worker's comp and LOA policy and did not show up for work for 2 years. After Intel was finally able to fire her, she was still able to weasel in her retirement party and her manager was pissed to have to organize it.

Oh, I well knew about the party option--beside it being in the AYCO ERP preso (and us all gagging at it being positioned as a 'benefit'), I was in the HR retirement comms team from 2006-2009 and helped write that Circuit content. What was not clear in the content when ACT hit was: 1. if we could decline the party and take the money instead; 2. If we could have that money sent to a charity instead; 3. Exact amount to spend per party. 4. Additional boost to the retirement gift due to ERP. My FLM had to contact HR to get clarification, and he showed me the HR response. Subsequently, an email went out to clarify as well. But none of those details was in the Circuit content in the beginning. Not even sure if they added it since, given that ERP included many nonstandard additions and changes to the regular retirement programs that may end up being a one-time thing. I had to laugh--in the original content, before ERP, we had verbiage in there about "think creatively about the retirement gift allowance. Consider something nonmonetary such as cooking classes...." My colleagues saw that and told our manager, "we don't want no cooking classes! Just give us the money!"

It was your own fault you found out too late about the party option @Cwyu. I can't tell you how many longer timers I met at Intel that had NO IDEA what retirement benefits there were. All one had to do was search Circuit for the word retirement, but did they? No.

Hell, that was one of the first things I did. LOL I like to know what ALL benefits are out there for me. That's how I knew I'd end up being able to retire early under the Rule of 55. I can't tell you how many people didn't know about that either. Pretty stupid if you ask me. I'd want to know that I could get out of there, with full retiree benefits, earlier than if I stuck around for the Rule of 75. The math doesn't work out for everyone, but it did for me and i was NOT going to stick around another couple of years, especially when the best package was dangled before me.

So.... had you searched Circuit for retirement you'd have known what you'd get which included a party. Sure, they cut back on how much we could spend with ERP since they thought too many of us would spend it all (it was $50 a person), but had you known about the $50 a head, and inquired about a party, that's when someone would have told you it changed to $500 max.

My so-called party was a combo of three of us on the same team who all got the ACT/ERP push at the same time and didn't want a party. We found out too late about this option.

Funny that quite a few people here had to suffer through the $500 Retirement Party. FLMs are so dishonest. It appears they only set up the party because they "have to". Yeah. Like they are real personable. Part of the reason why Intel has declined as a company that people used to enjoy working for.

The retirement party wasn't mandatory, and not everyone got one. But he was right about not being able to give you $500 in lieu of the party. Too bad.... I'd have preferred an extra $500 myself. :)

And I know who you are @Byid, talking about drinking your $500 away. Either that or there were a lot of you out doing that. I ran across a guy pretty snockered drinking some pretty spendy scotch at his party. hahaha ;-P Nuthin' wrong with that if that's how you wanted your party. :)

Ha! My mandatory retirement party was more like a funeral wake. I tried diligently to drink away as much of that $500 as I could.

I also tried to talk them out of hosting the $500 retirement 'party' and just giving me the money instead, but FLM said he 'had' to do the party; no cash buyout. Some 'celebration.' Plaque is in the same category imho.

I was expecting various Christmas packages, so eagerly opened this one. Ha! Intel, after all this time, decides to send a plaque and a letter from BK congratulating me on having attained my goal of reaching retirement. Reaching? I felt I was being ushered out or else.

Oh good lord. My apologies to the OP when I thought he was pulling our leg about receiving a retirement plaque. I hadn't gotten one so figured he was just messing with us but nope, he was not. I received mine today. eyeroll.

It's sad when you're hoping it's a decades old cookbook I had ordered from Amazon a few days ago, and then confusion when I saw an Intel box inside. Since I recycle all of my shipping boxes my first thought was "they used an Intel box? How odd.". Then as I was pulling it out of the shipping box to open... "I thought the book was larger than this box".

Then there it was, (undated) letter on top since now, it's been a day over 5 months since my last day. Honestly? I'd have been fine with an email that was more timely than this, but more importantly, because I hate wasting resources and everything is just going to be recycled. Everything, except the d4mn plaque since I don't know where to recycle a slab of wood.

Thanks, but, SAVE A D4MN TREE, INTEL! No hard feelings but I doubt any of us want a plaque, they just get thrown away and are a waste of time, resources and money. :(

Sure, we made millions but also sacrificed much of our lives to build thecompany. Even before the pc. Then kicked to the curb even though we still love intel. Shameful.

Was treated like $hit when I was "retired". Given like 5' to pack my cube and walked out like I was a thief, given what I gave and sacrificed the way I was treated was a disgrace! BK and the BoD and minions really are classless group of leaders.

There is little happy times at intel. Profits are at a record but go ping the rank and file, sad how so few are really happy or think there is a bright future.

After spending all these decades at Intel earning so much money and retiring with money, you continue your ungrateful, dissatisfied, disdain, bitter attitude towards Intel - to disrespect your retirement plaque.

@ryc- agreed you are POS! After 30+ years I still loved the company and was in charge of $100m programs.. saw the writing on the wall and jumped on the ERP even after a great review and SSL2..

I just got my ISP plaque. I am proud to frame it and display in my living room along with my severance check.

What retirement plaque? I don't think they waste money on that sh-t anymore. Besides, we got all we want in regards to a retirement award ($300 award + $750 gift).

What does the BS letter say?

The shipping cost more then the 2 dollar plaque with BK's BS letter.
