Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

My manager told me not to worry about layoffs for the next 3-5 years, should I believe him?

The rational behind his answer is Intel will reduce head count in the next 3-5 years by restricted hiring, filling vacant positions internally and others through consolidation/re-orgs, increase ERPs/VSPs, all of which should account for a net of 3-5K head reduction per year.

Dear, let me tell a story... a real one... long time ago in a Friday, my manager stopped by and said "do not worry our team is safe".. then in the next monday, everybody was in a room, including my manager receiving the severance package. If your manager is telling you that you are safe for next X years, he is a very bad manager.

You should not believe

You are going to lion and asking sir will you kill me ?

Whenever hungry it will kill . You should be proactive . Actual competitor is your manager and colleagues

Are you going to be in the 15% low performers or not ? Never ever believe manager

At the same time keep increasing your potential demanding skills

Let him follow you not you following him is the formulae

That's EXACTLY what manager told me 2 months before ACT1 (including 'no VSP expected this year'). Then getting booted as ISP with only SL4 ever. Found out later I'd been rated high enough the last 2 yrs @ Exceeding/SL1 & Succeeding/SL2 so not eligible for VSP and over 50 but still couple yrs shy of ERP, hence ISP.

Your manager is correct. Why else would the manager tell you otherwise. You are guaranteed a definite, permanent job @ Intel for a lifetime. Believe the manager and continue living the good life !

.

...haah haaaa😂😂😄!!!!

They are not restricting hiring. Last time I checked the news, they had added 6K new external people. And don't forget the acquisitions. So much for trimming 12K. BK may have told the truth when he claimed HC at the beginning and end of 2016 will be roughly equal. My friends still inside them me the place is full of new RCGs. ACT was only partially a true HC reduction. It was also a way to shake loose the older and more expensive employees that HR seemed to think were overpaid and stale. An RCG took over parts of my old role and the rest will be eol'd. Two close ex-colleagues in similar roles report their roles, too, have gone to external hires, all RCGs.

My former manager used to say before 14nm that Intel process is rock solid for another 10 years. These people are in denial. Intel is the only place they know.

Perhaps, if Intel achieves its plans/goals. Great execution is only part of it -- the market also has to match the forecast. Intel, like every company, stinks at forecasting the future (inherently hard).

OP - You should not believe his/her lying azz, if anything they might already be targetting you. Restricted hiring bull$hit, they are bringing in the RCGs in massive numbers.

That's not good for the company @jmp (I know you know that, just pointing out the obvious'). :) That means anyone that's taken a new job to grow is often times at the bottom since it can take a while to get up to speed. It doesn't mean they aren't good as we all know. People are going to get very stagnant if they're afraid to try something new, or do somewhat of the same thing but with a different manager/group.

Man, things are really s-cking there morale-wise which is too bad.

They've all but said that focal will be used to get rid of the lower 5% each year from now on. No more CAP's, just toss 'em out.

As for ACT-type layoffs, nobody knows except those at the top. Anybody who "knows" otherwise is just a blowhard. I'd guess that more layoffs are coming based on our products and the economy, but it's all speculation.

Wow, my Intel, Indian manager said the same thing before the last ISP! He then gave me and 3 other non-Indians in our late 40s in his group ISP/IR. Intel HR/legal said I had no claim for discrimination. WTF?!
