Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Are layoffs and furloughs efficiencies only a shareholder can enjoy?

He's pulling this out of thin air... Source below...

Are layoffs and furloughs -- that create more work for employees with no change in pay -- efficiencies only a shareholder can enjoy?

During the second-quarter conference call, following another announcement of layoffs, Cote said the layoffs and furloughs are being "driven by just better and better efficiency within our Aerospace business." Yet, he never went into specifics about what those efficiencies are.

When Real Money pressed Honeywell on details, we were told that operating efficiencies improved as "a result of a number of moves the business has made, including implementing SAP and other technology deployments, a rigorous focus on, and progress with, the Honeywell Operating System, including Six Sigma projects and other investments."

I am so tired of hearing people blame SAP for their own short comings. If I was weak sauce I would hate everyone being able to see what I am doing and more importantly what I am not doing.

One correction - Dave Cote becomes Chairman in March and remains there for one year. Darius becomes CEO. After one year as chairman, Dave Cote begins a 5 year consulting agreement. He will continue to influence the operation through his tenure as chairman.

I work in the aerospace sector and for the last 2 months 75% of the time we have had virtually nothing to work on. The whole site is experiencing the same situation. It's unfortunate that everyone listens to Jim Cramer ( a neighbor of Dave Côte ) and buys into their spin on what's going on. We have been building ahead which would explain the higher shipments numbers. If you buy into all this wait till next quarter and see what happens. Remember Côte retires in March. --------

I've done SAP consulting since 1998.. Honeywell is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. The people that can barley turn on a PC hate it, but I can do 2.5 to 3 x the work and reporting I was doing in the early 90's without all the IT people.

The irony is that SAP and HOS have done nothing but put up barriers to efficiency, while flexible work schedules and telecommuting have tremendously enhanced productivity. Guess which of these things are what the leadership team wants to s#itcan?
