My company is evaluating Avaya for corporate communications infrastructure. Should we invest in it? After googling I found lot of uncertainties with Avaya. Will it be risky? Or choose Cisco? Suggestions are welcome.

We were considering Avaya ourselves, but with the restructuring come layoffs and worse R&D/service as a result of the "brain drain". We ended up going with Callision.com and could not be happier.

Most of these replies are obviously from individuals not in the industry but end users. Avaya is on life support and has been for several years. Avaya Aura was a complete disaster and they are continuing to lose market share across the board, especially in the contact center and now their enterprise pbx business is dwindling in double digits each quarter. I compete against AVaya on a regular basis and rarely lose, even if Avaya is the incumbent. No money for R&D since Silverlake (private owner) pulled that back last year due to $6B+ debt they have to support). Most of their experienced inviduals with the real intellectual property have left, most of their high end resellers have added Cisco, Interactive Intelligence (ININ.com) or Genesys for the contact center and Cisco and ININ have great IP PBX products. They have taken on these new companies to replace their Avaya base. The Avaya pbx product will work, but no long term future and many analysts are telling clients (in private) not to invest any further in the Avaya platform. Too many other good choices that have a positive future.

Thank you for your recommendations. Sorry, but I would prefer to go ahead with Cisco. "PLAY SAFE".

MBS used to be hard fan of Nortel and what happen after Avaya acquire Nortel . They go for Cisco for the back offices and rooms , left the call center for Avaya.

Agreed. Best-in-class products still miles ahead of competition. Remember, you are investing in your company's communication infrastructure, not Avaya. So no need to be bothered by what's happening to Avaya.

There is no reason to be concerned about investing in Avaya products, the company is just re-organising to tackle debt maturities in the next 1-2 years. Underlying products and EBITDA are strong.

I agree. In terms of products/services they are good, no doubt. There may be uncertainties but that's only for the internal employees and some of their BUs. I can bet, nothing will happen to Avaya and it just wont go off in the air. Remember, if there wouldn't be debt, this would have been one of the best companies with good employees, friendly policies, and obviously excellent products including legacy products. I really enjoyed working there. This is just hard times for them.

Go ahead!

Go for it... This is just a bad phase and Avaya would be back strong soon.
