Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Nationwide Associate protest at all SHC owned stores/DC's/Corporate office. Day after thanksgiving which is Friday November 25,2016

A poster by the name of Billy suggested the protest be rescheduled for Black Friday. Here is his suggestion.

"You all are thinking about this the wrong way......you should protest on black friday. That would REALLY raise a stink - and get national attention"

This is the best suggestion and I fully agree with him.

Also, if you read any news articles about sears his name is in it. His actions are already closely being watched by all of the people just waiting to be the first to tell the world that sears has finally gone bankrupt. That being said the purpose of your planned protest is completely irrelevant and redundant...

People already think he's an idiot. Even our customers think that. I hear it all the time. Meanwhile he's laughing at the bank cashing in on all the real estate he just got. You will protest, people will care for awhile (but avoid your stores even more) and the employees and managers who are still trying to make a living and who depend on these jobs to make a living will be the only people who suffer. Eddie is already cashing in, you can't prevent that. You don't actually have anything to lose because you don't work for sears but some people here will actually be affected by this decision. Obviously nothing positive will come from it. You can't "protest" working for sears if you don't actually work for sears...I guess me and the "troll" you guy all hate are the only ones who see the flawed logic here... this is my opinion about what's happening: Either you can be fired slowly while Eddie cashes in on what's left of sears, or you could have lost your jobs years ago when Sears fell flat and even before Eddie bought it. Remember, the only reason he got sears/Kmart was because they were already in the toilet. I would advise you all to just take advantage of the system while you can and monkey branch your way to a new job or something. If you planned on retirement soon, pray sears makes it but don't add fuel to the fire that's gonna burn you....good luck.

You are correct that it will further erode the company. BUT it will cause Eddie to be under a magnifying glass. Think of it as the tipping point. Everything he has done will be reviewed, scrutinized, and with any luck - he will be before a judge.

Being fired wasn't exactly my point. Negative press further decreases the amount of people who actually want to shop in sears, further decreasing your hours and pay checks. I work at Sears mostly just for extra spending money. I am a college student who happens to be good at talking to people and selling things so if sears closes it doesn't really hurt me. HOWEVER, all of the negative things that would come from something crazy like this would be devastating for the company (meaning you...if you actually work for sears) which is why I don't understand what the actual purpose of this is. I mean sure, you'll get your 1 day of "fame" by being one of the "brave few" standing up to "the man"...but then what? You'll either go back to work (once again..if you actually work for sears) then you'll come back to this forum complaining about how little hours you receive and how sears is simply that much closer to closing... It also appears that the biggest fear on this forum is sears closing and you (the reader) won't be compensated appropriately. Do you think a protest to put a worse light on the company you work for will fix that or bring more customers in? Probably not. You'll be on the news for a couple of hours then you'll be forgotten, again.

Correction: No HR department will terminate anyone before having 3 no show / no call

To the person who said "not creative". You are partially right and mainly wrong. Most companies HR departments will tell you it's too much of a liability to fire someone with three consecutive no call/no shows. Sears would be breaking it's policy if they fired everyone that day (with the exception of right to work states). They would instantly have a lawsuit against them for "retaliation".

Not to mention - who can they hire last minute to replace everyone?

You'll just be ending your sears career that much quicker...I'm not sure what you plan to accomplish. Sears already has plenty of negative attention. Are you trying to save your job? Or just lose it on your own terms? Either is fine I guess but I'm just curious . (This is actually the first time I've actually felt the need to post here but I've been lurking)

I copied and pasted my reply from another thread to this one:

"@1rer/Billy. Actually that is a genius idea. Walk off the job, on Black Friday of all days at all SHC owned stores. How much national attention do you think it would generate Billy?

Oh regardless of payroll. Call every employee in that is on the payroll. Say it is a "store meeting" and it is mandatory. Say SHC does not care about OT, ect.

Just get everyone on the entire store payroll there at the same day. Tell them they will be paid for the entire day if they protest/work or not.

How much of a national stink will that raise Billy?
