Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Please spread the word. Associate protest on Monday October 10th.

We need to protest and stand up, make the public, Congress, the IRS and US justice department really take a look at how borderline illegal it is for what Eddie and company are doing to take all the money from Sears and TRANSFORM that money to Seritage which he also owns and suppress and cause 1000s of hard working associates to lose there job as he purposefully sinks Sears/Kmart in the process. Lets all Stand together< spread the Word MONDAY OCTOBER 10th, lets rise up. We everyone to not show up for work on this day if you want to make a stand. Make sure all Employees in your facility know about this website and the protest day.

Hahaha, yes please post your employee ID numbers. Unlike most of the babies here who don't know how to embrace technology we can look you up by your employer ID. Obviously with the lack of leadership we're seeing at the store level this "protest" is a waste of time.

They could copy/paste your ID and find out who you are in seconds..... Also, this entire "protest" idea appears to be led by a guy who was already fired and another guy whos never worked for sears..lol. I'm sorry, but this is really stupid.

No unfortunately, what I wanted to do was bounce ideas off you in private by email so 9055, will have no idea of what might happen.

I want to throw some ideas out before I go forward with this so it does not blow up in everyone's face.

Does this make sense?

I'd be happy too. But, before you can reach out to them - you need to build credibility. What I mean is, something similar to a petition that shows at least a 100 signatures from employees willing to walk out. My best recommendation would be to do a gofundme type page where employees can just leave a signature. The issue is - then the names are public. Do you have a way to reach employees in private? Even if someone ratted you out - if you have hundreds of names on it - sears won't be able to terminate you. It would make them look like they are retaliating. It would be an even bigger PR nightmare

Billy I am extremely interested in your contact info and getting this ball rolling. Email me at jbarnes01983(at)gmail.com or jbarn02(at)live.com.

I hope that once I am able to get everyone on board with this. I am willing to put a nice protest proposal for everyone to look at.

Even though I was laid off from SHC, I want to help.

I believe in people. I've always told my staff if I have done something horrible (like Sears execs) that I fully EXPECT them to do something of magnitude like this.

As for how much national attention....more than you can ever imagine. The news channels (I will say that I worked at two) are ITCHING to paint retailers in bad light for being open on Thanksgiving. It's a topic that MANY people are passionate about. Newschannels LOVE to evoke emotion as it guarantees people will pay attention and follow the story. You have more power right now than you can ever imagine. I'm willing to bet that's why so many SHLD execs are on the board.

If enough of you get serious about it let me know. I have some telephone numbers in multiple markets.

Never, Never, ever steal. That is just wrong on so many levels and defeats any form of justice and what is right you are trying to prove with a walkout. If everyone talks so much about how the company has not done anything to help them, fix a store or pay more and you are stealing merchandise then you are a reason the stores don't make money. Kind of self-defeating to argue about money and then steal the one thing that can make money. Don't do it!

@1nux - 1hdh here. I don't agree with or advocate associates stealing merch and would not do it myself but there has been talk of it. The level of anger directed at Eddie is such that many feel they are going to take after going many years without a raise in order to "help" Eddie "rebuild the company" when it was really all a scam to buy him time to liquidate and sell off assets bit by bit, which everyone now sees. The company was stupid to reduce loss prevention team and to have so few people in the stores that no one can see and report any theft by both customers and associates alike. They also need to invest in security cameras that work all the time but all this would cost Eddie and his buddies money.

I created a new thread and ask all protest ideas be posted on the new thread please.

Protest date change and I fully agree with the poster "Billy" on this to move the protest date to Black Friday. I already made a thread for the Black Friday protest. I suggest everyone serisouly consider not doing the October 10th one. The November one will get national attention. From now on all protest ideas should be made on the new thread please.

@1rer/Billy. Actually that is a genius idea. Walk off the job, on Black Friday of all days at all SHC owned stores. How much national attention do you think it would generate Billy?

Oh regardless of payroll. Call every employee in that is on the payroll. Say it is a "store meeting" and it is mandatory. Say SHC does not care about OT, ect.

Just get everyone on the entire store payroll there at the same day. Tell them they will be paid for the entire day if they protest/work or not.

How much of a national stink will that raise Billy?

You all are thinking about this the wrong way......you should protest on black friday. That would REALLY raise a stink - and get national attention.

@1pfu. SHC, wants the HR mgr at the Kmart near me to hire holiday employees. But she has no payroll hours to give them or to even onboard them.

They won't have enough people to work Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday.

My store is already a skeleton crew. Unless they plan on working everyone on illegal substances to make through marathon rounds of shopping hours there is no way they have enough people to staff a store for those two big sales days.

@1hdh, I do not agree with the employee theft part. I do agree with the call outs/no shows on Thanksgiving day and day after thanksgiving.

I do NOT agree with theft of any type. I do agree with "misplacing" things so when they are pennied out you can get them for 90% off.

How are employees at the DC's "misplacing" freight?

Protest needs be everyone call out on Thanksgiving Day. They can't fire everyone since they can't possibly replace everyone, esp around xmas. Company is closing all stores and going online only in January anyway so not much to lose even if they did fire people. And they would have to fire EVERYONE that called in, not just a few to make a statement, as this would be an opening for a discrimination suit. Guess Ol' Eddie has never heard of the expression "There's nothing more dangerous that someone with nothing left to lose." Lots of associates will be stealing merchandise this holiday season as they feel Eddie owes them. No LP in the stores makes this easy. Those at the DCs are already doing so.

I no longer work for SHC, but I will support the protest.

9055, the media pays very good attention to this board. The media actually listens to the employees when SHC does not. If all of the employees protest including management like the SM what is SHC going to do. You cannot fire a whole store staff. Who are you going to get to replace them?

Very few employees want to work for $7.25hr.

A former SM of mine regrets ever working for SHC. She was screwed, her store was closed and she was there for six months.

So I do support the protest. Think about this, if a SM walks out and protests and all his/her employees support him. Who is going to run the store?

I agree, we need more time to alert the media about this protest. October 10, is too soon. This needs to be planned properly. Every employee at every Sears and Kmart must walkout and protest the unsafe working conditions.

I agree with the protest. We just need more time to plan it.

Someone needs to alert the local media if you are doing it. Having it on television will draw big attention. They will think twice about firing anyone if it looks like retaliation against you for airing grievances.

  1. Your right we need to come together----in a union. Great idea I'll call my local union and see if they want to come protest.

9055,

I dunno about firing protesting employees, how many are left to run anything?

Also, the fair wages comment it nonsense. Sear's pays below industry average for all positions and sears can't even provide stable hourly employment long enough to retain workers.

Furthermore sears has cut wages, increased unpaid over to exempt employees, and reduce commission payouts.

"SHC pays everybody very well" - Hogwash

What a condescending post.

The only person paid fairly in the company is Eddie. No salary and all stock which will be worthless enough soon. As is deserved. The second coming of buffet, ha. All of that energy spent trying to live up to some idealized expection of his father, yet all Eddie has done is destroy stable employement for over 100k people. I don't care how rich you get, no parent would be proud of weath earned in such a manner. He's a disappointment to his father's principles and he knows it, and I just love the idea of a tortured billionaire. I wonder if he'll even get another chance to try and redeem himself.

Pathetic.

Now, now. You have to realize that a non-union protest can have severe consequences up to and including termination. I know times are tough right now but a protest, that we all know is going to fall flat, will not help anything. We need to come together as a team and make sure that WE are all serving our members the best we can each and everyday. Think of your families, SHC pays everybody very well and you don't want to give up that financial stability.
