You clearly don't get it. Kmart pays $30-$40 in rent at this space for the next 20 years. Rents in the penn station area are greater than $200 PSF. The area is in the middle of significant development. They will be paid to leave at some point.

9055 - Broken escalators and poor lighting are not standard Eddie. I run a 30 million dollar building so I would know. If an escalator or elevator breaks - you contact Schindler, Otis or TK and authorize an emergency repair / overtime.

9055 must be fast Eddie as he is the only person delusional enough to believe said items are the norm

Hey 9055. I have defended you on some levels of the business of retail but really how can you defend this. This is a store that is in one of the most visible areas in the world with foot traffic that most retail stores would die for. You are at Penn Station across from Madison Square Garden and across from Macy's. How much more of a metric do you want to succeed? You must be crazy if you think that the article picked the few things wrong for click bait. Most retailers do not have broken escalators, especially in a four story store ( yeah that is SYW at it best, let them walk four flights of stairs to get to the merchandise), poor lighting really lets them see what they are buying (or in Kmarts case poor lighting might make the merchandise seem better) And the clearance racks just show how much this company does not get what the customer wants and modern day retailing. That is why it is on clearance you idiot------ no one wants it ---even at 90% off. The merchandise s**ks

The street is biased but they took a photograph of that NY store a few months ago and the escalator was broken. Now, they are back and the store made sure to hang teddy bears over the railing and the escalator is STILL broken. The store is looking like a hot mess even ignoring the cherry picked pictures. hello empty goldfish cracker display.

@9055

And the asbestos?

Also that last post read like that of a bond villian, holy cow.

"I believe the conditions in this store warrant a visit from the regional manager AND the regional merchandising team."

You write that in a manner that implies you have the authority to make such a thing occur. And you make it sound like a punishment. Creepy.

Now, now. i did not post the first comment. TheStreet does have a negative bias toward Sears Holdings, but I recognize there is serious journalism being practiced.

Fyi... I would never condone the placement of racks next to two emergency exits, nor would I let broken, opened, or expired HBA to languish in a corner like that.

The Manhattan Kmarts operate on their own, with store managers under the regional manager. Both stores don't follow national ads as "No Ad" stores with pricing that can be adjusted by the store management team where necessary. They also don't carry every item suburban Kmarts do. There won't be fishing equipment, hunting gear or kayaks in sporting goods, for example.

I believe the conditions in this store warrant a visit from the regional manager AND the regional merchandising team.

@1ula, you are right. Unfortunally Eddie values store stock/freight more than employees health.

@9055,

If these articles are clickbait, why are there conversations on this board of employees worried about asbestos exposure in poorly maintained stores?

9055, Shut the hell up with the transformation garbage. Your full of BS, you need to take a laxative to get all of the sh-- your spewing out of your system.

Maybe once the sh-- is out of your system, then we might consider believing you.

No one gives a sh-- about you 9055. Your eddies slave and Eddie is your master, you will do what ever Eddie tells you to do.

Come on, these articles are clickbait. They clearly try and find the worst possible areas of the store to photograph in effort to make things seem worst than they are. Broken escalators, poor lighting and early Xmas decor is standard at any retailer. The clearance racks are a clever use of our store's unused real estate and is key to our transformation.
