Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Hurricane Matthew

I am trying to be funny about this, and I am sorry if this really happens to anyone's store. Employees are worth more than product. Eddie values product vs employees.

I am thinking about this. Employees could be laid off by Mother Nature if hurricane Matthew hits SC,FL,NC destroying Sears/Kmart stores.

Instead of rebuilding the stores, SHC collects the insurance money, walks away and screws the employees with no severance.

I wonder if SHC might resort to this action? I would be really shocked if my prediction came true.

Stay safe everyone, I live in 29412, look up my zip code to find me. I am in hurricane country, our area is in the path of Hurricane Matthew.

Well I hate to do this, but on this particular topic 9055 is correct. There are no businesses that could have workers working if there is no store. And if there are no Kmart or Sears close by how can SHC give you a job? Sears maintenance people could fix some stores that are not too damaged. Stores that sustained lots of damage would need outside help and contractors, permits, engineering etc. If the store is leased then it is up to the landlord to fix the problem

Many stores would simply go out of business or move locations, some would rebuild. This all depends on who owns the property, if the business wanted to make the effort to rebuild etc. You can still go to LA, MS, and see the effects of Katrina, many business never reopened.

9055 stated: "If a building is damaged causing longterm closure, associates are offered positions at surrounding stores or laid off. That is how most retailers operate."

Get a clue dumb--s, there are no more surrounding stores in most areas since they've all been closed. If there are surrounding stores they do not have the payroll to take on the displaced associates with the way payroll has been and continues to be butchered.

But nice try.

@1lyg, what I was saying is that since SHC fired/laid off all QMT's earlier this year. That store managers must replace ceiling tiles, fix broken toilets, ect.

Maintence the QMT used to do.

@1tjv Store managers, with district manager's approval, may engage the services of maintenance professionals or contractors where company maintenence crews are unavailable. These people are paid through direct deposit upon proper invoicing with corporate. Cleaning a toilet, vacuuming carpets, cleaning displays and dusting are generally done at store level by designated associates.

To 9055, what company maintence crews? Remember SHC fired all maintence crews earlier this year and now make store managers, fix toilets, ceiling tiles, ect.

So your full of sh-- 9055.

FYI: This profanity is directed at the troll 9055 only.

I do not give a flying f--- about what you say 9055. Every word that comes out of your mouth is "Corporate Speak" aka BS. This post was directed at everyone else but you, you f---ing troll.

9055 I hope a Sears or Kmart sign comes crashing down on you during the storm and puts you in the hospital till SHC files for bankruptcy. Then you will be out of a job.

To everyone else but the troll 9055 stay safe.

For the most part, Sears self insures. I can tell you that Hurricane Sandy damages were patched and repaired by company maintenance crews. Stores that had structural damages from Sandy --where the building was the responsibility of the landlord-- had those damages repaired by the landlord or the landlord's insurance company.

If a building is damaged causing longterm closure, associates are offered positions at surrounding stores or laid off. That is how most retailers operate.
