@nzb both my children are female ...and so am I. 4.0 GPA STEM all-the-way yet got offered and gladly took the VSP. Both FLM and SLM preferred me to stay yet they knew it was not in my best inferest...it's not just URMs that Intel is looking for, it's cheap URMs.

Let me get this straight- I laid off a blue collar worker from a branch that was bleeding and now I can't hire a Cornell MatSci PhD in a totally different job role and branch? What are you 14? Idiots like you is why nobody take anti H1B camp seriously.

Tier 2 and 3 Engineering school grads are having a hard time. If u went to Cal Tech, UC, MiT, CMU etc your starting salary is 30 per cent higher, and the gap widens over time. Even after 20 years thise engineers have unemployment rates of < 1%, more quality issue. I am 58 PhD from Caltech, undergrad from Harvey Mudd. Hardley a month foes by, when I dont get a call from a past team member asking if I would be available. Most Intel engineers are glorfied technicans. I also know my salary is nearly 70% higher than people from OSU. 200k+
@UIC medical top 25 Univ are like 60% women and ASIANS. Just go to Stanford. Take alook.
It's a bit of a self-fulfilling profesy -- as they treat their engineers like slaves and then cast them aside, do you really think we can adequately role model a healthy enough attitude and lifestyle to encourage our children to go into that field? If I were to be starting out, I'd go into medical, boutique vinter, law, or finance fields. Much better quality of life and better chance of higher pay. Let the H1Bs have the new slave labor in our messed up economy. It s---s but I will certainly NOT be encouraging my two children to go into the high-tech field as an engineer/glorified tech. I'll be sticking to smaller companies and focusing on getting a higher degree in the finance field, if nothing else to help myself while having fun at it. I wish you all good fortune and blessings.
The reality is the layoff was misconceived, and many groups still need talent, and that talent has to be highly educated so no qualified lower educated Americans. I hire a lot, would love to have a US citizen or green card as the hiring is fast tracked, sadly good US candidates are far and few, just go to any Tier1 to Tier3 school and see what the STEM looks like for undergraduate and graduate.

Sadly there are rarely any qualified America born for open reqs. Dang even the black and Hispanic candidates tend to be foreign students. American under educated need to get over their education gap and tell their children to study hard instead of spend all their time partying
