The problem is not the IT Industry... The problem is the IT Industry "in the US". It is so ridiculous... The Government consciously allow loopholes that let Companies manufacture products overseas, and pass the profits with preferential taxes here. Then, zero penalties are in place when Companies lay off employees, and "rebalance" roles to lower cost Countries. Finally, the H1-B program take more jobs away from us in order for the US to stay "competitive". The real issue here is public policy, and the fact that Corporate America rules this Nation. We are doomed...
They're getting 90 days notice...and 4 weeks severance. eek
I almost started thinking it sort of equates to 16 weeks severance, but absolutely not... since I'm sure IBM expects them to actually work and train their foreign replacements for those 90 days. At least they can still look for other employment on IBM's time.
Glad I got out of Big IT when I did.

When I got laid off from HP a few years ago, my initial primary targets were IBM, Dell, Cisco, and the likes.... I'm so glad that didn't work, and I ended up working in Biotechnology. Being in the IT Industry (at least in the US) is a major risky proposition right now, unless you work in Security; provide services to the Government; or are simply an entry level fresh from College.
