Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Face it everyone... EDMC is here to stay!!!

There hasn't been one bit of credible doom and gloom news for EDMC on this site since...well... ever. It simply doesn't exist. Wishful thinking doesn't make it true.

With $0.01 stocks, there is no rebounding from this. EDMC will inevitably sink. No one is going to buy it and restructure any curriculum. The funds aren't there. DOE will sooner than later suspend federal funding. It is the end of the for-profit era. They're dropping like dominoes. Greed took a hold of the wheel and is now teeter tottering on a cliff. The public is aware and is avoiding for-profits like pigs avoid a shower. This is where the gravy train tracks end for many.

The company needs to get back to what it did best- teach quality art programs in growing professional fields and invest in those programs. The previous board pushed by Goldman Sacs grew the company out of control in a time when college aged students was dwindling...and now the remaining campuses are struggling. They built four schools in my state alone- so they all just watered down the successful campus that was there before. That EDMC board that is long gone now nearly destroyed the institution and got out with fat paychecks. EDMC needs to combine schools in areas where 3 or 4 are not needed and close about half the remaining campuses that were opened during that artificial growth period....and focus on 1. accreditation issues and 2. building more relevant coursework. Also let the schools act more autonomously on curriculum that is currently not conscious of the needs of each region and its employers. We see how well standardization is doing in public schools. Bring back more full time faculty that are invested in the school's success. Adjuncts as dedicated as they can be, don't have time to participate in the running of the facilitates and curriculum if they are hustling to make paychecks at multiple jobs. Also build more community support by participating in that community and then promoting our success. We use to be on the news every week for the community outreach done on and off campus. Now not a peep because there is no PR person at the campus - one of many cuts. The regional PR person has no idea what is going on at each campus. Now that the company is essentially privately held, the new owners have to get back to the core business of education or shut it down. This position we are in now is a slow death. My campus has not had a technology budget approved in 3 years- we haven't discussed new purchases or planned where the programs need to be in next couple years. No planning, few faculty, little support staff = no future. Get it together EDMC.

Well put it this way... there are campuses that have been told via a telephone call to shut down baking labs or less utilized labs, in particular some of those campuses that have 3 culinary labs. This is in order to save money. The sharp tools in the shed at corporate think that they will save money by closing labs and turn the lights off. Like it will be so cheap to move thousand lbs of deck ovens and mixers, and add electrical receptacles for them in other labs... IDIOTS... new prospect students will love to hear the ADA's saying "there used to be a kitchen there"

The leadership at corporate is making the dumbest decisions... Why not trying offering programs that students would be interested in? like a B&P Associate degree that may be a bit more popular than useless diploma programs. Oh no wait, let's rip off students so they spend more money for an additional degree...
