Selling off Kmart to a new owner? It's possible...

An interesting comment from a retail analyst on the value of Kmart as a business unit...

Kmart is “the more interesting part of the business, but because of the problems and issues with Kmart, they are not going to get what they would want for it,” says Saunders. “I think selling Kmart is a possibility, but it would be a long-term play. I could see that some players would want it.”

I see Kmart as a viable option. They may be in the not so desirable neighborhoods but so are the Dollar Store and Family Dollar. The key is knowing your customer and being who you are and not what you pretend to be. Kmart under SHC has tried to be some middle of the road store with SNC backing and reputation. Sears reputation is S**t and no one want what they are selling.

If Kmart would be a nice store with cheap merchandise that people can afford then they make a profit and be a real business.

Look at the last few financial quarters, Kmart year-to-year, same store sales are down but not as much as Sears. I believe that the slump in sales has to do with being connected to SHC i.e. their old computer systems, their bloated buracratic way of doing things, the corporate B.S. they have to put up with. Cut Kmart loose and I believe they would thrive. A Dollar Store on steroids.

agree with the first response. Kmart is a teardown. Most of the locations are not desirable; who would want to buy a teardown in the skankiest part of town?

Why buy these rundown stores when there are plenty of office depot and dicks sporting good stores in much better locales . Not buying this story. They all will be available for near fee next year when Kmart closes. these shoes for the most pat need a bulldozer and the hazmat people out .
