Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Still no takers for McAfee? There is no way they will get 7.7 Billion Dollars for the purchase price.

They will not get back what they paid for it and put it in the "phuck up" column for Intel.

@2oiz

Nothing. There was no synergy at all.

It's analogous to Microsoft buying Taco Bell.

It makes no sense.

To give it away to employees for free @2oiz. IF they even want it for free.

@1xch - so what was the secret security technology that motivated the deal? It seems like nothing came of it.

Small, nimble, and confident companies focus on what they are doing. Bigger and slower companies worry about what they aren't doing, and try to buy their way in to compensate. It hardly ever works, and Intel has repeated this mistake over and over.

Funniest thing is everyone has personal iPhones and they just use them to take picture of work since their Samsung is turned off. Intel is too stupid to figure out what is going on.

All McAfee's good for is putting all this security bloatware onto all the Intel work laptops. A recent update turns off all the laptop webcams... as if that would stop anyone from taking pictures with cell phones.

@1kqt

Mcafee has nothing to do with those technologies.

It's a major WTF on the part of the exec team.

No plan.

No vision.

Just nothing.

The ineptitude...

It's astonishing!

It would have been a profitable deal if it resulted in new security technologies being introduced into our chips, allowing Intel to charge a $10 - $15 premium for them. Such features would have needed to arrive in summer 2015.

Not aware of any super-duper new security architectures being introduced. There is secure boot, but that hasn't been very popular (and hackers are now actively working to crack it). Sky Lake can have encrypted memory ranges, but no one has been getting all emotional at that.

Well that failure led to one firing.

ACT, failure to leverage Altera, floundering foundry, late 14nm and disastrous 10nm, failed memory, IoT, 5G, and modem will be added to failed mobile to get BK fired!

PSO should also shoulder the blame here. It happened under his watch.

Renee was the "mastermind" behind the deal.

She was almost CEO and made it to president of Intel.

Let that sink in.

The BOD is just awful and totally out of touch with reality.

Another example of insular management arrogance and no clue to the rest of the world. Pay billions for a company not in the core business or one that adds any complimentary value.

Can anyone name a product or feature we got from the billions spent that added to intel's strategic initiative or competitive position in Servers, Network, PCs, chips, anyone?

Please ask BK or your GM at your next BUM what was the value and how that money helped grow any buiness, improve any strategic position or competitive position, versus return the billions in a stock buy back or dividend LOL.
