AMD might not have the leading processor, but it at least seems competitive. The only problem I see is its not available until 2017.

Clock rate doesn't matter anymore all that matters is benchmarks at equal power, so of they got better execution per cycle they could smoke Intel, you remember Prescott Intel's finest space heater, LOL
Zen is the least of Intel worries! It is the fact nobody really care about a new processor or architecture if it is x86. Thinner or lighter or 2in1 nobody gives a phuck. Look where PC placement is one ever store, in the back like milk in the grocery store, everyone requires one in life but boring! Everyone cares about phones and Intel doesn't play there thanks to PSO and BK brilliance.
Intel is like AMD adopting ARM as the leadership is always a day late. Stupid arrogance across the board blind their leadership, problem is All leadership incliding BK grew up spoiled by x86 monopoly and think there small d--k is somehow much bigger, but they are getting eaten by TSMC and ARMy now
Zen appears to be competitive with Sandy Bridge, maybe Ivy. It'll still be behind Intel. Watch for the "at equal clock rate" comparisons, since Zen won't reach much beyond 3GHz that'll become the marketing term.
They'll certainly sell a bunch to the people who buy the "more cores is always better" marketing. It's sad to see even high-end gamers who swear they need 8 cores and miss the fact that the critical thread running at a slower clock rate will actually decrease performance. Oh well.
@J4fIoTi-usr Chinese already have their own custom architecture as well as ARM. Nobody in the works meld except Intel continues with fascination on x86. Yes x86 makes billions in profit but it is yesterday's news. Would be like buying a railroad company when the world has moved to cars ( ARMy ).
Zen will be painful to Intel as when it arrives Intel will be trying to ramp 10nm and Zen will force pricing down on low yielding 10nm so big cost pain for Intel.
I'd say AMD will eventually be an acquisition target for a Chinese company. Its the quickest way to get into the x86 market. Maybe lenovo will buy them and so they can implement a vertical supply chain themselves in the pc market. Similar to what samdung does with their tier 2 phones.
That would probably give a slight advantage to them versus other pc makers
