Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I'm staying at Intel & trying to move up technical ladder, what's the best way to do this?

ACT has opened lots of opportunities in my org. How do I keep advancing up the technical pipeline?

". I did not take all this seriously myself. I thought just being productive and supportive and getting consistent Successfuls/SLL3 would work but it didn't. That is why I am out. In terms of the technology track, look out for getting niched into Intel-specific micro universes you can't even explain on an external resume. Also, think: Intel technology is waning. If you were an older engineer, I'd say "hang on until rule of 55+15 and take a package." For younger engineers, I'd say "don't consider Intel as a long-term career."

Believe in yourself. Tell everyone where you want to go. Ask your manager or mentor or peers to review you're plan of action getting there. Execute your plan. Hold yourself accountable to the plan and go somewhere else if/when you get frustrated. Be open about changing the plan. Ask for feedback even if you won't like it.

:-) Nothing to say .... All depends on the team you work with or the manager

Believe in your skills nothing else.

That guy is in every group. And now probably a PE. Unless some random female was nominated to make the numbers.

I knew that coming to Intel was a mistake when my manager told me to emulate people who were arrogant, ignorant sociopaths without real skills other than playing the Intel game.

Those are the skills that are appreciated. Certainly not technical or business ones.

Sad but true, in several focals I was told by manager to emulate one particular individual. Here is how he operated: when working in a TF he would sit in the cafe and stop everyone working on the problem and pick their brain. Then he'd go to the management meeting and spew the comments/questions he had gathered, even if the people whose ideas he stole were siting there in the room. He would s--- the energy out of every task force and send people chasing meaningless ARs. Ironically this overwhelms the team and causes them to seek the root cause with more urgency. He would then take credit for it all. I am old Intel, and believed (erroneously) that it was about team work. This individual got promoted almost yearly and is now a PE.

Which Group are you in?

In TMG/FSM, the technical ladder is a lie.

Remember that Focal is a competition against your peers and teammates (and sometimes against your manager). There are courses and Inside Blue blogs somewhere you can search on the Art of the Brag, which is what you will need. Be willing to throw your teammates under the bus. Learn PowerPoint very very well. Brag brag and brag in your MSRs and 1:1s. Steal other people's accomplishments where possible. Always look busy. Talk about how important you are, at all times, to peers and boss. If something goes wrong, blame someone lower than you, or point finger at green badge. Never share important information that would otherwise be beneficial to your peers. When you have an opportunity to make your peers look bad, go for it! Even if your FLM is an idiot, make them look good and give them credit for you own ideas. That should help some.... ;)

It's all about who you know. Not what you do. This is a serious reply.
