Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Real estate crash in bay area

Things are not looking well for real estate in the bay area at the moment. Intel has had major layoffs. Cisco announced major layoffs a few weeks ago. Real estate prices are at an all time high. Volume is collapsing. The Chinese need their money back home and trump adds to all the uncertainty. One big hiccup at Apple or Facebook and the house of cards could collapse.

Ha! Dream on. You think Intel could stand to lose its headquarters?

News headline:

"Intel closes headquaters"

You people are a bunch of airheads.

I don't see how we justify still having a presence in Santa Clara after shutting down sites "for cost savings". SC is head and shoulders above any other site in cost per employee. I'd love to see the savings we'd get by consolidating SC into Folsom, Oregon and Arizona.

We claim to be leaders in modern thinking. Prove it, BK. Shut down Santa Clara.

No sales tax. Slightly higher property taxes.

Cars are more expensive new. Lots of people buy in CA and have them shipped up there as used, sort of

Oregon has about same income tax rate as California

Oregon's a nice place. I like how the seasons change and how you still get the beautiful natural view.jist about everywhere.

But while housing costs not CA insane, its not exactly cheap now there either, especially in some of the Portland burbs. Tried to buy some homes there, but couldn't get them to cash flow. House cost as a percentage of your average income up there is pretty challenging, unless you are a tech worker, which the majority of Oregonians are not. Great for tech workers though.

Well technically, in Oregon, you aren't putting gas in your own car. Someone technically must do it for you.

I moved away from the Bay Area in the early 90s to Oregon in order to afford a house. And eat. And put gas in my car, And heat & cool my house.

I'm okay with this. Anybody who wants to move to the bay area is seriously insane anyhow. What a waste of money.

The funny part is that one of my tenants is a nice Indian couple. He is an engineer making $180k/year. She is a director of software making about $254k/year both with excellent credit. And yet, when I asked why they haven't bought a house yet, they said they can't really find something they can afford in Palo Alto.

Yeah, tell that to the homeowners and landlords up there..oh wait my 1800sqft place now rents for $4200/month instead of $3800.Oh and last sold price last month on same street is now $1.38million instead of $1.1million.

One thing for sure, I am glad I don't work and love in the bay area anymore after my company IPOed back in 2000. Man, those were the days. And man, I am old.

Folks can keep their stock options, I'll take cash and a $3000/month positive cash flow on each of the three properties up there so I don't need to work if I don't want to.

Dude u are so lost, Intel and Cisco were the companies minting millionaires 20 years ago. They missed the new innovation and are the kodaks of this tech extinction.

Prices are driven by other upstarts and the layoffs have no impact, you must be US born engineer
