Not sure why it’s silent on UPS layoffs, but there was a massive cut in Richmond…
Eighty folks will be cut this quarter and some folks are leaving immediately or have left already. Multiple dpts were hit – all of them in UPS freight, and since the HQ is here in Richmond they will suffer the most.
Total 160 folks will be laid off over next 12 months and other dpts will take over job duties. The word is that folks will be able to transfer, and that’s typically tough as internal transfers.
People will not be able to transfer. These jobs are being outsourced so that UPS can add on to their record profits. These jobs are going to Scranton part,India and the Philippines. Another money saving ploy to the detriment of their longtime hard working employees who had many years of service. Not that UPS cares about their employees one iota.
A tough environment and they do not invest into people any more – you have to swim or sink here – that's the way they manage things. You can advance and things are dynamic, but do not expect to get too much support from your managers there and when layoffs come expect to be cut if you are not well connected. I was not let go but I left on my own, as hours were long (minimum 10, but I was averaging 12/day), my schedules were awkward (graveyard primarily, Sunday afternoon to Friday morning)… The pay was not cool at all and they do not pay overtime to supervisors…
