Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Every semiconductor manufacture is seeing revenue growth except Intel. Intel is the only one shrinking and laying off, WTF?

How can that be if Intel's 22nm and 14nm is so good and better than every other manufacture than every fabless wpild be busting down the doors of the ICF and Intel's foundry offerings, yet they all go to everyone else. Something is really wrong with Intel silicon or is it just the management or is it both ?

Look at the successful foundry, lots of outside talent calling the shots and on the board too, about as opposite to Intel as it can be!

Till that changes it will en epic fails like it has been, LOL

@J2d1CpM-1gje - Absolutely.

Beyond the PR announcement (and the legal gives and gets of the deal terms of the partnership) there simply aren't, in my experience at Intel, people who know how to work constructively or collaboratively with external partners. Nor is there any top-down support for this. There's just too much egoism, arrogance, mistrust and lack of experience that I have yet to be part of a "partnership" activity that hasn't resulted in the "partner" throwing up their hands and saying, "Come back when you guys are ready to do something other than wasting our time in pointless meetings."

The future of Intel depends on people in Intel becoming experts in this kind of work. I'm just not optimistic.

Having been inside, deep inside the Intel machinery and also seen a few othe companies, I can attest that the current management and culture will fail in any endeavor that requires collaboration and / or in any area with true competition. The cultural is so poisoned by two decades of x86 monopoly and arrogance. It all starts with BK and down all thru TMG is all poisoned. It all needs a complete overhaul, but none has been done so a strategy even if correct can't be executed by this management even if the engineers and technology is there.

Get out if you can and are still valuable to other companies!

This speaks to what I believe is the fundamental problem with the new "strategy": While there is opportunity in areas like AI, IoT, augmented reality, etc., these aren't areas where Intel has a competitive advantage. Just the opposite.

In addition, these are new and emerging areas that require Intel to work humbly and collaboratively with an array of ecosystem partners. Again, this just isn't in Intel DNA.

Comes down to x86 vs. ARM. The world is having its revenge against Intel for all the years of monopoly practices, overpriced products, sues, and preventing the lack of innovation from inside and competitors.

Looks like Even MS picked TSMC

New product R&D has been outsourced to reality TV. BK and the board seriously think this is a good strategy - it exists - what world am I living in?

BK:

How's the dumb a-- reality show? Have ratings been boosted to more than 5 viewers or had it been taken off the air?

Underperforming the S&P500 and SOX semiconductor index since BK took over. Not by a little - by a LOT.

Good job clown shoes BK!

I'm sure mica bracelets and drones will work out!

And those stupid mgrs just go about their merry way making this crap, knowing they are getting their asses kicked, lying to their employees, etc, etc.. Typical Intel mentality.

Intel is a fine example of why monopolies are bad. Without real competiton you create a culture and management chain of unbelievable incompetence.

Intel - We offer the most complex, most expensive, most in-efficient and the least graphic performance processor line up on the market. If you want something simpler, or more efficient and less expensive...then please do not order from us.

Intel cost are more expensive than foundry. Combination of several things make Intel totally incompetive.

First the size of factors makes for many tools running inefficient and others like scanners as totally constraints. TSMC and Samsung have huge fabs with economies of scale beyond Intel's wildest dreams.

Second when you scale tools up you dont scale engineers as much so they have huge efficiencies with regard to engineers and management of the fab.

Last the process at Intel from the PM and process to monitors is set up to maximize yield at any cost because they sell for hundreds and thousand versus 10 bucks.

Everything from process definition, to tool pm and monitor and headcount structure and scale would need to change for Intel to ever be competitive with TSMC or Samsung at a wafer level.

Just ask BK, Sohail, Ann, or Peter or any of the factory managers these questions and watch their eyes bulge and BS come out

What is wafer cost for a 14nm wafer? Intel's cost may be way higher than TSMC or Samsung because they are used to selling assembled die for hundreds of dollars.
