Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The perfect storm

2017 will be a disaster for Intel. On so many fronts Intel will be attacked.

  • The datacenter: Intel needsneeds the efforts of AMD, open power and ARM to come up short.

  • PC business: AMD newnew zen architecture looks very promising. With high end desktops to be announced early next year the result will start hitting the bottom line just in time for focal.

  • Wearables: Intel effectively excited this business when it burnt their customers literally.

  • IOT: expect big things next year from everyone but Intel.

  • Finally mobile: 2 generations behind the competition, manufacturing on TSMC and on an ancient 28nm node.

Expect 40,000 redundancies at a minimum.

IoT, Drone, 5g, mobile, automated car, wearables - all are simply hypes from intel, will never bring any or enough profit for Intel to move the niddle at all, May be it buys some time, and keeps stock prices up for some time! And may be they will come up with a real block buster by that time.

In 5G Modem - Apple is probably the only customer intel will ever get, and if very lucky they will get a part of that socket, not more. And other 5G gears, why should intel make any better business than GE, Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia-Siemens, ZTE, Samsung etc. ?

Glad the timing of the ERP worked for me. I waited a little over a year for that package to be offered. SO glad to be out but would love to be a fly on the wall. Hence me lurking here.

CRB failed to identify and invest correctly.

PSO was dogmatic in his attachment to x86 and of course is infamous for turning down Jobs and Apple to manufacture the iPhone

BK will go down as being in charge when Moores law ends and not putting unplaced a strategy. On his watch both 14 and 10 will be late and miss executed. Then he failed to get Intel into mobile.

What sad legacy after Grove, actually a sadder story than Kodak

The Kodak story also correlates Steve Jobs and Xerox PARC, he took the main ideas that Xerox had stored away with their prototype and came up with the Lisa few years later then the Mac. Xerox didn't want their lucrative photocopy business to doom. x86 to ARM anyone?

It is a perfect disaster that will be right up there with Kodak and written about in technology business classes for years to come. CRB, PSO and of course BK will be infamous for their part in leading the decline.

The disaster will be that they are on the third and fourth generation PC designs on 14nm. The added features take area and power but are still on 14nm. Thus cost will be bad, due to continued low yield and the larger die make. But Intel should easily supply demand as demand will be down another 10% but the loss of total units at same revenue will mean more cost cutting! Who cares about those features on PC anyway, all about mobile and Intel is non existent, sorry a modem in the iphone7 won't save the company.

Than IoT and memory will s--- and be at losses. Modems will have little profit and this will all put huge gross margin pressure. Anyone think a fragmented IoT market can generate 5 billion for Intel with 60%GM. More like a few hundred million in revenue on 1 billion cost.

Than the big elephant in the room is 10nm. Huge factories and people in place but the schedule is so late due to process health that is going to destroy the company!

Server will grow at 5% and be under margin pressure by the end of 2017 due to the ARMy finally arrives in server.

Intel will be 70k in 2017 and 50k in 2018 and if 10nm slips even uglier. Employees get your parchute a ready it is a crash

Funny that there is nothing positive written about Intel anymore. Even TV commercials are going away. Continuing decline on all fronts. There are companies actually succeeding and growing in the present business climate. This fact points to poor decision making on the part of Intel Executives. Intel needs a real business man from outside to step in and reconstruct the business model like they should have done 3 years ago. Obviously BK has one screwed up model that is only leading the company into more decline and ultimately many more lay-offs.

BK will layoff another 20K people and find another 25 or 35 million dollar fat Indian man who failed the company he came from. Yes, like Murthy did with Qualcomm. BK rewards poor performance at the executive level. Andy Bryant is simply a stupid stooge.

Not even Andy Bryant will be able to cook the books through this one. Even with Otellini still on the payroll.
