Can someone please advise on how I determine which iPhone7s have the Intel vs Qualcomm modem? I want to be sure to get the latter. Thanks!
Intel has little design expertise in analog / radio and their process is even further behind. To think they can transform from an arrogant x86 that never had competiton into a powerhouse that can go tow to toe with other companies is a wet dream
"They know Intel will lead in 5g." - how can anyone know if Intel is gonna lead in 5g ? They never have shown anything big in that area before, and they probably never will.
In 5G Modem - Apple is probably the only customer intel will ever get, and if very lucky they will get a part of that socket, not more. And other 5G gears, why should intel make any better business than GE, Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia-Siemens, ZTE, Samsung etc. ?
IoT, Drone, 5g, mobile, automated car - all are simply hypes from intel, will never bring any or enough profit for Intel to move the niddle at all, May be it buys some time, and keeps stock prices up for some time!
@J0ueDXw-1bzo Fruity ain't doing so hot! Appropriate they selected Intel. IPhone7 is going to be a flub
Apple is fool. They know Intel will lead in 5g. They have made their move with that in mind. Low pricing is icing on the cake.
Some days back an analyst said Intel will probably get 5$ per modem from Apple, where as Qualcomm was getting 12$ before intel came in. Considering that the Intel modems are not as advanced as Qualcomm's, and that Intel has literally "NO" other taker of their modems, I will be surprised if Intel make any profit at all from the modem sells. And many analysts are already saying intel modems probably won't be in 2017 iPhones, as the next Qualcomm modem is miles forward to Intel's.
What I am concerned of is that hopefully we are not gonna have a modem-gate in 2016 iPhones. The modems from Intel and Qualcomm can have significant performance differences !

nice.

Yeah.. TSMC gets paid first, then Apple negotiated the price. You think they are in the business of a charity, they know how desperate Intel is, you know what price we give our x86 CPUs to Apple, LOL
Intel don't make any money on the Apple business!
LOL! What are the margins considering TSMC are manufacturing the modems?
Range bound for 20 years.
Stock has been a major yawner for TWO decades.
Apple modems won't move the needle. Especially as Intel falls behind on advanced wireless standards.
