I've heard top Portland based companies are hiring ex-Intels in masses. Personally, I've been contacted only a couple of times by this eBay recruiter. Where are you people heading? I'm lost

@2tzy - "good people/employees" come in all ages and colors. It's not just the young diverse people that make good employees.. it also takes those with working knowledge.

@1uel - the most talented people are often the first to leave (as they have better options). Also, a downsizing like Intel's can dislodge good people from the organization that would have never been available otherwise.
A _smart_employer would realize this is an opportunity to pick up good people. You never lose money on good people.

I agree with you completely @1cwj. I got called an HR Troll a few times because I was being helpful answering peoples questions. I'm not HR, but instead an admin whose job it was to have all the answers for my org AND relay them to help folds out. I tried to do that here and kept getting called names. There really are a bunch of ignorant *ssholes on this site.
The people who keep on posting "OP is HR Troll" to every thread are getting to be as annoying as the trolls.

The market is fairly cold to former Intel employees, especially those seeking new careers. Recruiters and employers not warming up to these hard workers msinly because of the specific skill sets they have maintained. Even if they are solid workers, it is very hard to transition to a new field.
Intel skills are too specific. Nobody's beating down the doors to most of the chip engineers. I wasn't an engineer but even I am being told my skills are too Intel specific and not up to date with what's out there.
Housing will go bust, save your cash and wait for another year or two, the price is at the top but when 10nm slips it will implode in Hillboro
I only saw software developer jobs in Portland.

@wbm Are you afraid or expecting a correction in prices as all of these intel employees go elsewhere for work? I have lots of cash in hand to buy...but I am waiting to see the fall out. Thoughts? Too bad we cannot chat over coffee...
Actually Hillsboro prices are soft and a bag in compared to New Deli, Banglore, Mumbai prices on a global basis. We have been buying four plexus paying cash or 50% down. It figures in nicely. Public schools are poor. Short term housing in demand especially furnished. Good time if u buy right I have a 15 year horizon. Also medical spaces, offices will do well. Always opputunity.
Options are limited in Hillyboro for specialized chipmaker monkeys and thus housing and employment and over business environment will be ugly in the coming few years as people desperately leave and leave unsold home and many vacant apartment and such. The Nike building boom will not outweigh the end of Moore
There is really nothing going on in Oregon for Tech jobs. After years of Intel laying off good engineers and the HUGE numbers of H1B coming to Oregon..good paying jobs are few and far between. Thanks Intel and congress, Oregon is crap for pay and high price for housing.
Quite a lot of impacted Intel employee try to be hired bu Qualcomm.

There are no large company bases in Portland outside of Intel & Nike....and Nike doesn't want chip designers.
