@@IrzlrRT-gxd Samsung and Qualcomm are non starters as they compete with each other and any other of the ARMy, just like Apple can't and won't buy.

Believe it or not everyone who uses ARMy will be happy they got a big sugar daddy. All the CEOs will be visiting Son to build a relationship and make gentle suggestions for directions to further the ARMy virtuous cycle. Only one crying is intel as they are really BK'd now, LOL

This is intresting, the reason Softbank acquired ARM is because future disposal of ARM does not come under anti-trust. Now that brexit is done and there will not be EU anti trust probe. Later samsung, avago or qualcomm might be potential bidders.

This guy, Masayoshi Son, is one hell of smart dog... Mr. Son understands the situation on the chip-makers' market.

Mr. Son invisions/sees The Future. He sees INTEL House of Cards falling. Bite to dust. And Mr. Son know. INTEL is struggling (even now!) to survive. This is his bet. Once the big trouble signs will show as INTEL continue to fall, Mr. Son knows, that ARM is winning everywhere. So he'll start increasing royalty fees. He will charge 10x at the end of this gamble, and everybody will buy. No questions asked! ;-)

This is how things should be done. This is how gamble with huge monies should be done. Kudos to Mr. Son!

ARM is the choice for all real IoT as the power efficiency kicks x86. That was and continues to be the choice for all phones ( read little computers with little batteries ).

IoT is even more power sensitive expecting the chip with full integrated radio and sensors to work on a battery for weeks to years. x86 has no place and will get it's asshanded worse than the Intel tablet and phone offerings were.

Now they get a big sugar daddy who will double down and double their staffing. Think Intel doing Itanium, Larabee and Tejas, but instead of spectacular failures likely ARM will now have three efforts they can fund from the sugar daddy.

1) Traditional architecture improvements for the smartphone only a billion of those sold

2) New push into a new category of ARMy for IoT. Intel will have nothing competitive in this space. Their process nor x86 and their integration of radio/etc. pales compared to what a well funded ARM with TSMC silicon can bring.

3) Renewed push into server and high end with another more well funded ARMy to assault the Xeon line. I'm sure Google, Azure, and AWS and FB would love nothing than a real viable ARMy far more power/computational efficient than overpriced Xeon with FPGA. Now ARMy will push hard and have Xlinx FBGA pushing the high end

It'll be a rough day in SC, LOL

Titanic just sprung another leak, LOL

Totally BK'd

ARM is an IP company that has a long history of architecture / IP in the low power computational space. It is true the ARM architecture is ideally suited for ultra low power. With this huge buyout they have now a huge bank account to bankroll lots of options.

1) Big push with no financial concerns into multiple optimization of IP for low powe

2) Big push into the high end with custom core IP that enable competitors to really take it to Intel in the server space.

Double body blow, combined with Apple, Google, and others all now designing their own chips.. less and less value in custom x86.

Like I've said before the ARMy has overun the virtuous cycle of 300 million x86.

You got TSMC and Samsung producing a billion ARMys and using it to fund silicon development on a massive larger scale than intel.

You now got the IP company with infinite deep, deeper pockets than intel to fund architecture push on all fronts.

So doesn't matter if intel stays as IDM or splits whether combined or seperated things just got even darker, LOL

BK'd
