Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

More layoffs are coming

Lets examine the latest Gartner results showing another 5% drop in PC shipments. This means volume continues to drop in intel's cash cow. I don't care how many servers they sell and how much they charge but without the volume of client Intel is closer to DEC and IBM than the Intel of the 90's. They won't have the volume to feed the huge R&D required for 10nm and 7nm. They won't recoup the billions to develop the next generation x86. Simply put they will have to reduce design resource and cut people, they will have to cut factories and cut R&D and the virtuous cycle implodes.

The opposite is happening at Samsung and TSMC, fed by the billion unit demand for smartphone they have raced to invest billion and now out spend intel in building factories and investment in the latest tools for manufacturing. They have built a virtuous circle around the ARM aps processor and mobile.

Intel withers and will continue as they have small factories and volumes while Samsung and TSMC become the giants of the 21st century making the aps processor, the memory and the modem, pretty much all the silicon in your smartphone and tablet. Intel is the IBM of the past, and look what happened they limped alone for a couple decades because they made huge money from services and software, sorry intel has nothing but chips, it will surely implode.

Get your life jackets and climb to the stern of the Titanic as it is surely going down

Saying something obvious, without saying when it happens is equivalent to being wrong.

The only reason PCs are 'stabilizing' in the US is the Windows 10 corporate upgrade cycle. This will play out in exactly the same way as the Windows XP upgrade cycle. A mild bump and then back to year on year declines.

Look - PCs are dinosaurs. They're a smartphone dock away from total obsolescence. Intel missed out on mobile computing and now it's too late.

Virtuous cycle has turned rather viscous as Intel loses scale with each passing year. Good luck the

ROI on 10nm. 7nm? Forget it - the economics don't add up.

@IpoEHTB-qjk You think BK is going to get up and say intel is dead, LOL. He is going to put his best Bk show on. He will spin that the bottom of the PC is near because of US numbers but overall volume is still way down as U.S. is but a small part of the world and most of the world wants phone upgrades and not PC. He will do his best to spin the 10nm slip of course, LOL. He will spin the IoT of course as everyone knows that is nothing but a total circus with no real usage or business yet. Yup keep lapping BKs BKing

My 0.02, Intel will have 50k emp, loyees world-wide by 2020. No way they can sustain and keep shareholders happy with declining PC sales and server market being under attack by ARM.

Great analysis by OP. You cannot argue the real data that is available for everyone to see. Yes. Intel is certainly fizzling out. Their biggest decisions will be how many and who do we layoff this year. And they should be desperate to rid themselves of the cancerous BK.

Can we wait till July 20th to validate your belief Intel, a 55 Billion Dollar a year Corporation, is going to fail? Somehow I just don't believe Intel is in the downward spiral you think. Market shares will recover, just where will Intel be in the mix is the broader question. Last I heard more things, IoT, are incorporating silicon into their designs. Intel will be fine. ...after they get rid of this pile of crap CEO BK!
