It is what is happening. No politician from either political party has the will to handle it. Too much lobbying money in play. My advice for newbies? Stay away from STEM careers in the US (Intel, and other tech companies would like that too - then don't have to pay an American living wage) Unless you are willing to be paid 1/4 of what you are worth, with little chance to advance. I work for another large tech company (a software company) but have many friends who work at intel.
Just after a huge layoff of North American, European workers, the India office celebrated on social media the hiring of the 1000th employee in our shiny, new India facility. Managers are being promoted in India and brought to the US. I've seen figures that annual wages for Product Owners have dropped $25k over the past 5 years because now they aren't paying Americans.
I can't hate Indian workers, they are just hustling to take care of their families - but, and no offense is intended, I hae seen first hand, over and over that the quality of work I've seen from India is not nearly as good as Americans. You get what you pay for, and companies like intel don't care as long as the stockholders are happy.
@1vgr - Probably a little bit of both.
If the hiring in india is to gain share in Indias digital India drive then it makes sense - as the Indian govt has stipulated that companies design and manufacture in India- I read that a few months ago. The digital India is an investment by Indian govt to the tune of 1 trillion USD in the next few years.
If this is due to cost cutting reasons then it's corporate Americas game plan
