Steve should have "figured it out" long time ago - along with other NOV senior VPs, that it was their decision that put ineffective people in key management positions. This was either because they themselves lack the knowledge, experience and skills to identify talents in people (pretty bad), or because of nepotism (even worse).

Regardless of what drove their decisions, the result is the same for NOV. We all know that even before the downturn, NOV has becoming more like a glossy marketing brochure than an honestly solid company. They love charts, dashboards, and reports they create themselves, and over time believing in their own stories.

Now that we are in a deep and severe downturn, NOV is aggressively cutting costs to save itself. Funny, layoffs have disproportionately impacted the people who actually deliver products and services, leaving executives and upper management untouched. Their brilliant decision!

Dave Murray - DDS Sr. Director of Engineering is a useless leader who is clueless about technology. Hope Steve get rid of him and his worthless engineering VP boss clue less Hans.

Steve hopefully assign some real leaders with engineering vision so that we can save this organization.

In his zeal to differentiate himself from other "dump iron" VPs within Downhole, Steve Barton has smartly consolidated "intelligent" drilling product lines under his umbrella. However, he did not know enough about down-hole electronics engineering and manufacturing, and thus was sold a bill of goods, by these so-called experts, putting them in charge, instead of people who really has experiences in these areas. That's why they could not produce reliable and profitable products. Our engineering could barely incorporate matured technologies into released products, that other companies have already abandoned and moved on to more cutting edge stuffs.

Also upper management did not foster a spirit of collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, and post-sale supports. In fact, DDS structure allowed for contentious relationships between various key groups.

NOV tanks due to executive ineptitude. If they are to run their own business, our VPs, directors, and upper managers, would go bankrupt.
