Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Italian IBM Laboratories - IBM sold to HCL Technologies.

The sale of some IBM branches started in Italy as already reported by Lee Conrad on Watching IBM Facebook page.

The Indian Company HCL Technologies will buy on 1st of September 2016 the first part of the Italian IBM Laboratories. At the moment it will affect part of the employees working on the support and development of the following IBM products:

1) all the family of TWS (Tivoli Workload Scheduler),

2) Rational Clearance and Clear Quest,

3) RAD,

4) SW Architect,

5) Rational Rose,

6) Green Hat,

7) RTVS,RTW,

8) R Performance.

75 employees will be transferred under HCL Technologies clearly this will be the first step for the hell.

In Italy also another branch of IBM (Sistemi Informativi) will be dismissed with other 156 layoffs.

Maybe it will be just the template for future massive layoffs in the countries where there are more restrictions.

Next step will come soon most probably.

Systems Architect, FocalPoint and PurifyPlus were purchased by UNICOM Global, and are a part of the TeamBLUE product line. http://www.unicomglobal.com

"Development and support teams from IBM, who are expert in these products and offerings, will benefit from HCL’s strong engineering heritage and culture of empowerment." This makes me sad. I was part of that italian team. What do these words mean to them? Sad.

What is status of TWS (Tivoli Workload Scheduler)? Ownership? Support? Development (if there is/will be any)?

Re Rational dev tools (ClearCase, ClearQuest): HCL / IBM entered into a 15 year partnership.

To clarify, IBM has retained all IP and product direction for the Jazz platform products (RTC, etc) but development will be handled by Persistent Systems.

The Rational dev tools (ClearCase, ClearQuest) have been sold directly to HCL. IBM will not retain any ownership.

The products are being developed and supported via partnerships between IBM and 2 other companies. HCL is one, Persistent Systems is the other.

Are we able to confirm that RTC, Jazz, ClearCase, ClearQuest, etc. are now being developed and supported by third parties such as HCL? Interesting that IBM has not disclosed this to customers.

This marks the death of these tools. Whatever internal promises the team member have been told will disappear after HCL takes over.

Also: It's nice to see that the IBMer who leaked this knows how to spell the product names correctly.

This is not outsourcing. This is a complete divestment.

A huge amount of work has been invested in ClearCase over the past few years. It seems a waste to squander that investment now.

Cost cutting, HCL can dev/support for less. Think about it, it is so bizzare that an ousourcing specialist choses to outsource its own work. Sick times...

Corporate America is a complete trainwreck trying to keep up with The Street's expectations. Nothing they do surprises me anymore. Anyone who has had to suffer through dealing with HCL knows just how terrible they are. Hell, I could make a company profitable too by charging outrageous prices for my services and then paying the folks in Bangladore $5 an Hr to TRY to do the work. They live & die by their Playbooks. ANYTHING that requires them to think outside the Playbook and you start to hear gears grinding and smell smoke. It will be a shame if they are allowed to destroy TWS, the best Workload Automation Product on the market today.
