"So..... when someone takes an 8 wk sabbatical, and tacks vacation weeks on the end, that quarter they'll fail focal since they weren't doing any work? Sounds pretty much like how a lot of the ISPs were tagged the last few ISP's."

Only if you're not part of the "inner circle" of people favored by your manager and his boss. Otherwise, favored sons and daughters would just get whatever EE or O that they would have anyway.

Meritocracy at work, Intel style!

With the new focal process the ISP will be executed quarterly based on quarterly results and knee jerk reactions of BK. The best /worst case is 2-4% per quarter means intel could achieve 16 percent cut in a year, heads are going to roll.

It will be interesting to see if quarterly pass/fail can become instituted as fair as that is a short time for evaluating such impactful life affecting decisions, but I doubt BK, Richard or others at MCM care much.

I just bought one a few weeks ago when they took my work laptop away.

Now wait a cotton-pickin' minute.... Are layoffs and packages how they get PC sales???? Ingenious!!!

Biggest rumor I heard is that people are not buying PCs anymore, but it's just a rumor.

Yeah. There's plenty of phony managers they could dump and not even notice.

You don't need rumors.

Just look at PC sales for clues.

It's in a major downtrend. What does that tell you?

After the fallout and chaos of ACT, I think they will more quietly put pressure on the BUs and project teams, with the 'basis' for cutting adjusted as needed to get the right numbers. Of course they ran into criticism in 2015 because of "stealth" layoffs and so decided to be "transparent" in 2016 with ACT instead. The bottom line is no business in the US is a charity (just ask HP and Carly) and with Oregon as an at-will state, you have a double jeopardy. In truth, if a company has to do layoffs, they have that right, with or without 'performance' as a reason. Given the changing tech environment and--honestly--some bad Intel management moves and decisions over several years, layoffs are probably still going to happen. While they simultaneously hire new/different talent. It wouldn't be entirely surprising if those new hires happen to be younger/lower salary or in the support teams, green badges. You might even see some things outsourced completely, who knows. Which is another common practice with big companies (think: food service, security, payroll, HR functions).

Dude, he won't announce any more layoffs, that much is crystal clear. With the new focal system, layoffs will be done in stealth mode by the BUs when needed. New focal pass/fail methodology is the perfect mechanism for quarterly purges. Look for layoffs based on 2 consecutive quarter fails or 2 fails/3 qtrs. If things get ugly financially, they can always turn up the knob one notch and use just 1 fail to get rid of people.

People will be begging for an ISP or VSP package next year after Q3 Q4 numbers.

I'm not so sure ... Oregonian has been pretty quiet the last month and a half or so ... I fear the mole might have gotten ISP'd.

If there is one, the Oregonian will let us know.
