Phone every 24-36 months

Tablet every 36-48 months

PC every 60-72 months

Ouch is all I got to say to the last one on whether they can maintain the silicon development and investment in Moore's Law. This looks like the same thing that killed IBM/DEC and other rich huge companies that once were in silicon, without volume there is no ability to fund the factories nor reap the reward of the investment in silicon, BK'd

It sounds like the PC is a smart-dock away from total extinction.

Just dock your phone into KBs and monitors for "big" work.

My kids and myself do most things on the phone first, we only switch to laptop when we want to see it "big" or need to type or do work in real documents. The convenience and habit of accepting all on the phone has made the PC while a must, not the thing we need to upgrade much.

Just walk into any Best Buy. Smartphones are at the store front as soon as you walk in. Ultrabooks and PCs are way in the back.

This is my fear also. That the downward trend continues for the next few quarters or year(s) and continues to affect the bottom line of silicon manufacturing companies.

Smart phones and like devices will continue to become the norm and other devices the exception.

I have bought like 10 smartphones and three tablets to the one laptop, any questions where the silicon volume is and who drives the market

With smart mobile devices seeing quick growth and are able to replicate many PC functions, PC shipments have been dropping for four consecutive years, while Microsoft and Intel's new platforms have not been able to boost demand.

People don't want:

Skylake

Kaby Lake

Ice lake etc...

Intel is spending a lot of R&D ( i.e. - YOUR Salaries) making things people don't want.

More layoffs are all but certain.
