Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Is there future ?

Question to ask yourself is not whether you can survive this round or the next round of cuts... You should ask yourself if there is any future for this 3gate company

Firstly, top management should reduce their salary before cutting workforce. Their salary is so high but made a lot of mistake in business investment.

To the individual that posted:

"What do you want the performance ratings to look like little bitch? 1- You s---, 2 you arent doing well. 3 you are doing the job you were hired for, 4 you are going above and beyond and a 5- you rock so much you're about to get promoted. You think everyone deserves a gold star for playing? Grow the f--- up"

The problem, as has been pointed out before, is not what the numbers correspond to - it is that the distribution is intentionally distorted so that almost everyone gets a 3. It isn't a linear scale, and it openly encourages slacking off because you will get a 3 regardless of your performance, unless it is several sigma beyond the mean in either direction.

If that isn't clear, try finding an adult that can read that with you and help explain it to you.

I realize that this might be too hard for you to understand, given the juvenile language and lack of thought evidenced in your sad little post. I cannot help but think that you would be better off participating in some other, less complicated discussion elsewhere... perhaps simply talking about cute puppies of what kind of cookies are yummy in your tummy.

Millennials, like myself, most likely won't get RIFed. That appears to be reserved for the experienced. But, we are all looking to leave these future-less posts.

Life is full of choices. I work here because Seagate treats me better than my past companies. Interviewed with a storage company today, a third of the pay, twice the hours. If you hate etc leave.

Well, I think it's undeniable that the 10+ years employees feel betrayed and disrespected by many overt and subtle actions that have taken place. That can't be great for business, and we see the results.

"YOU are the reason seagate sucks, not anyone else." Yeah, remember that when you don't get a raise once again or, better yet, get a 10% paycut. Laughs on you as you do the work for pennies and the CEO rakes in the dough off all his options and dividends. Really, think about the time people put in when company runs 24/7 and engineers working evenings and weekends. Add up all the hours and your actual hourly wage is less that than a blue collar worker who gets time and a half for overtime.

For all us bottom feeders who actually do the work and make the money and might just get some of the bread crumbs that fall between the cracks, we should stage a Performance Appraisal revolt, how you might ask, simply refuse to sign our Appraisals, you want to see our Managers sweat, and our SMT Gods will have no idea how to react, they give you a 3, hold out for a 4. There is nothing they can do to make us sign anything, anything that will hold up in a court of law anyway…Our way of saying we are mad as Hell and we arn't going to take it anymore..

I just wish you would spend as much time as your bitching on this site on HAMR and SSD and maybe we would be partying like rock stars. Cunt muffin!

Over the years, the SMT has become so out of touch with its employees. They have a major image problem of their own doing. They totally destroyed that sense of community feeling we used to have.

Taking away one week's vacation and giving an extra week to mellenials was a overt statement of what they thought about older employees who helped build the company.

We used to be leaders and were noted for quality.

Message to Mr. Luzco, please at least appear to be caring and compassionate in your communication meetings.

Morale is at its lowest. Older workers are being jettisoned, and young up and coming talent are looking to leave.

The company doesn't care about the employees so the employees don't care about the company.

its really that simple.

Looking forward to my 3 again.

By the looks of the morale around the halls of Seagate, it will probably never recover. It's not the Seagate of yesteryear. They have made many mistakes, but one of the biggest was taking a weeks vacation away from their long term loyal employees. Another was the Phishing Scam that will follow us for the rest of our lives. Steve Luczo has not uttered one word to his employees as far as apologizing for that enormous screw up..

Add that to "no raises" and the fact that most employees can predict what their performance appraisals will be for the next ten years. It certainly doesn't sound like a company that cares about it's employees. So why should the employees care.

As long as everyone gets paid doing minimal work who cares about the future. That's been the attitude around here at Seagate.
