How did Intel allow this to happen?
I thought that x86 would last forever since it was so dominant in PCs. My grandchildren' grandchildren would know about mod/rm.

It is ironic that Intel originally had an ARM license and had an ARM research and development effort, but sold it off circa 2006 I think, to Marvell, to focus on extending x86 to mobile. At that time, Intel was also betting a lot of money and research energy into WiMax, ignoring LTE. Intel has not done well understanding or taking advantage of anything mobile that has broad general marketability.
Arrogance by the technical leaders and lack of any technical vision or knowledge by the leaders, CRB, PSO and lastly BK are managers but lack any visonary IQ at all.
The company has been built with a monolithic and herd mentality thinking group of x86 only managers, there is no innovative thinking, it has been smashed out of the system.
As with many leadership technology company disruption has to come from outside and only happens with the complete collapse of the status quo. The great the success, the harder the failure has to be before change will occur, and x86 was wildly successful the WINTEL combo was one of the most world changing and profitable business in the word but the world has ARM'd for the next revolution and TSMC and the ARMies have assaulted and taken down the x86, LOL
The lack of embracing ARM will be Intel's downfall, LOL
How embarrassing that ARM is in Intel products.

Even Intel's modem has an ARM microcontroller inside.
Ditto for all of Altera's high end FPGA products.
Why would anything IoT be better on Intel instead of ARM?
The Board of Directors are too blame since the people that got Intel into this mess are still employed making multi-billion dollar mistakes.

PSO handed the virtuous cycle to ARM and their partners while simultaneously entering a viscous cycle for x86 clients. All because he couldn't appreciate the obvious success of iPhone.

1st blame CRB for the wrong bing buying and lack of vision
2nd blame PSO for turning down Apple, or we'd not have Samsung and TSMC breathing down your neck
3rd soon to blame BK for totally pissing any lasting chance for intel to exit the decade as a leader
ARM virtuous cycle in the mobile, appliance and IoT space is all but assured. ARM is assaulting the server space with that base, just like x86 used the PC base to conquer the server. History will repeat as a billion ARM can't be denied, just like hundred million x86 couldn't be denied 10 years ago.
Nothing BK or Murthy do/wish can change the power of larger numbers, the only solution is to embrace ARM which Intel refuse to do, LOL
We didn't ask Intel's permission to be everywhere.
Because Intel couldn't arse itself with low margin products, DUH.
When I first started at Intel and you wanted to create something - say a drone (just as an example) and you were expecting good volumes in sales then there was only one place to go - Intel. In the past 6-8 years ARM has made it possible for the average "Joe" inventor to create items WITH volume WITHOUT the need for Intel. And now today, not only is ARM available in volumes, with great Varity, but they BEAT Intel Architecture in; efficiency-thermals, graphics, radio (modem)/cost and more importantly simplicity. Companies are looking to ramp their product in 2 MONTHS. In order to ramp a product using Intel architecture it takes at LEAST 6 months - to a year. Unacceptable. Best thing Intel can do moving forward is close up the areas that do not make money and consolidate servers/cloud. What other choices do they have?
